The jewel which Brihaspati bound for Vata, for Ashava, the waters bear that jewel, ever flowing, unceasing. From them he drew forth immortality; again and again, with this, strike down your enemies tomorrow and every day.

ऋतवस्तमबध्नतार्तवास्तमबध्नत । संवत्सरस्तं बद्ध्वा सर्वं भूतं वि रक्षति
The seasons bound it, the seasonal lords bound it. The year, having bound it, protects all beings.
अन्तर्देशा अबध्नत प्रदिशस्तमबध्नत । प्रजापतिसृष्टो मणिर्द्विषतो मेऽधरामकः
The intermediate regions bound it, the directions bound it. The jewel created by Prajapati is my destroyer of enemies and brings me prosperity.
अथर्वाणो अबध्नताथर्वणा अबध्नत । तैर्मेदिनो अङ्गिरसो दस्यूनां बिभिदुः पुरस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि
The Atharvans bound it, the Atharvans bound it. With this, the Angirases shattered the fortresses of the Dasyus; with this, strike down your enemies.
{१९} तं धाता प्रत्यमुञ्चत स भूतं व्यकल्पयत्। तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि
The Creator released it; he arranged the beings. With this, strike down your enemies.

May the deities give me this jewel for nourishment: the jewel that conquers, increases sovereignty, and crushes rivals.
ब्रह्मणा तेजसा सह प्रति मुञ्चामि मे शिवम् । असपत्नः सपत्नहा सपत्नान् मेऽधरामकः
With the power of Brahman, with brilliance, I release for myself what is auspicious. Without rivals, destroyer of rivals, may my enemies be brought low.
{२०} उत्तरं द्विषतो मामयं मणिः कृणोतु देवजाः । यस्य लोका इमे त्रयः पयो दुग्धमुपासते । स मायमधि रोहतु मणिः श्रैष्ठ्याय मूर्धतः
May this jewel, born of the gods, make me superior to my enemies. The three worlds, whose milk is sought, attend upon it. May this jewel ascend upon me for supremacy, upon my head.
यं देवाः पितरो मनुष्या उपजीवन्ति सर्वदा । स मायमधि रोहतु मणिः श्रैष्ठ्याय मूर्धतः
May that jewel, by which the gods, ancestors, and humans always subsist, ascend upon me, for excellence, upon my head.
यथा बीजमुर्वरायां कृष्टे फालेन रोहति । एवा मयि प्रजा पशवोऽन्नमन्नं वि रोहतु
Just as a seed sown in fertile soil grows when ploughed, so may offspring, cattle, and food increase in me.
यस्मै त्वा यज्ञवर्धन मणे प्रत्यमुचं शिवम् । तं त्वं शतदक्षिण मणे श्रैष्ठ्याय जिन्वतात्
To whom you, jewel that increases sacrifice, have granted auspiciousness—may you, jewel of a hundred gifts, bestow supremacy upon him.
एतमिध्मं समाहितं जुषणो अग्ने प्रति हर्य होमैः । तस्मिन् विधेम सुमतिं स्वस्ति प्रजां चक्षुः पशून्त्समिद्धे जातवेदसि ब्रह्मणा
O Agni, delighting in this prepared fuel, accept it with oblations; in you, Jātavedas, kindled by the priest, may we establish good fortune, offspring, vision, and cattle.
10.7 कस्मिन्न् अङ्गे तपो अस्याधि तिष्ठति कस्मिन्न् अङ्ग ऋतमस्याध्याहितम् । क्व व्रतं क्व श्रद्धास्य तिष्ठति कस्मिन्न् अङ्गे सत्यमस्य प्रतिष्ठितम्
On which part of him does ascetic heat abide? On which part is truth established? Where does observance dwell, where does faith stand, and on which part is his truthfulness founded?
कस्मादङ्गाद्दीप्यते अग्निरस्य कस्मादङ्गात्पवते मातरिश्व । कस्मादङ्गाद्वि मिमीतेऽधि चन्द्रमा मह स्कम्भस्य मिमानो अङ्गम्
From which part of him does Agni blaze forth? From which part does Mātariśvan blow? From which part is the moon measured out, as one measures out a great limb of Skambha?
कस्मिन्न् अङ्गे तिष्ठति भूमिरस्य कस्मिन्न् अङ्गे तिष्ठत्यन्तरिक्षम् । कस्मिन्न् अङ्गे तिष्ठत्याहिता द्यौः कस्मिन्न् अङ्गे तिष्ठत्युत्तरं दिवः
On which part of him does the earth rest? On which part does the atmosphere stand? On which part is the sky established? On which part is the highest heaven set?
क्व प्रेप्सन् दीप्यत ऊर्ध्वो अग्निः क्व प्रेप्सन् पवते मातरिश्वा । यत्र प्रेप्सन्तीरभियन्त्यावृतः स्कम्भं तं ब्रूहि कतमः स्विदेव सः
Where, aspiring, does the upward fire blaze? Where, aspiring, does Mātariśvan blow? Where do the aspiring rivers flow together? Tell me of Skambha—who indeed is that god?
क्वार्धमासाः क्व यन्ति मासाः संवत्सरेण सह संविदानाः । यत्र यन्त्यृतवो यत्रार्तवाः स्कम्भं तं ब्रूहि कतमः स्विदेव सः
Where do the half-months go, where do the months go, joined with the year? Where do the seasons and their periods go? Tell me of Skambha—who indeed is that god?
क्व प्रेप्सन्ती युवती विरूपे अहोरात्रे द्रवतः संविदाने । यत्र प्रेप्सन्तीरभियन्त्यापः स्कम्भं तं ब्रूहि कतमः स्विदेव सः
Where do the two youthful, differing forms, day and night, run together in union? Where do the flowing waters converge? Tell me of Skambha—who indeed is that god?
यस्मिन्त्स्तब्ध्वा प्रजापतिर्लोकान्त्सर्वामधारयत्। स्कम्भं तं ब्रूहि कतमः स्विदेव सः
In whom, having been established, Prajāpati upheld all the worlds—tell me of Skambha—who indeed is that god?
यत्परममवमं यच्च मध्यमं प्रजापतिः ससृजे विश्वरूपम् । कियता स्कम्भः प्र विवेश तत्र यन् न प्राविशत्कियत्तद्बभूव
That which is highest, lowest, and middle, which Prajāpati fashioned in all forms—how much of Skambha entered there, and what remained outside, how much was left?
