अजो वा इदमग्ने व्यक्रमत तस्योर इयमभवद्द्यौः पृष्टिहम् । अन्तरिक्षं मध्यं दिशः पार्श्वे समुद्रौ कुक्षी
This goat, O Agni, has stepped forth; its upper part became the sky; the mid-region is its middle, the directions are its sides, and the oceans are its womb.
{१२} सत्यं चर्तं च चक्षुषी विश्वं सत्यं श्रद्धा प्राणो विराट् शिरः । एष वा अपरिमितो यज्ञो यदजः पञ्चौदनः
Truth and order are its eyes; all is truth; faith is its breath; the radiant is its head; this, indeed, is the boundless sacrifice, the goat with five rice portions.
अपरिमितमेव यज्ञमाप्नोत्यपरिमितं लोकमव रुन्द्धे । योऽजं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
He attains an unlimited sacrifice and encompasses an unlimited world who gives the goat with five rice portions as the sacrificial gift of light.
नास्यास्थीनि भिन्द्यान् न मज्ज्ञो निर्धयेत्। सर्वमेनं समादायेदमिदं प्र वेशयेत्
One should not break its bones nor extract its marrow; one should take it whole and offer it completely.
इदमिदमेवास्य रूपं भवति तेनैनं सं गमयति । इषं मह ऊर्जमस्मै दुहे योऽजं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
This, indeed, becomes its form; with this, he leads it; he milks nourishment and strength for him who gives the goat with five rice portions as the sacrificial gift of light.
पञ्च रुक्मा पञ्च नवानि वस्त्रा पञ्चास्मै धेनवः कामदुघा भवन्ति । योऽजं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
Five gold pieces, five new garments, five cows that grant desires are given to him who gives the goat with five rice portions as the sacrificial gift of light.
पञ्च रुक्मा ज्योतिरस्मै भवन्ति वर्म वासांसि तन्वे भवन्ति । स्वर्गं लोकमश्नुते योऽजं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
Five gold pieces become light for him; armor and garments become his protection; he attains the heavenly world who gives the goat with five rice portions as the sacrificial gift of light.
या पूर्वं पतिं वित्त्वाऽथान्यं विन्दतेऽपरम् । पञ्चौदनं च तावजं ददातो न वि योषतः
She who, having lost her former husband, finds another, and to whom the goat with five rice portions is given, does not depart from her husband.
समानलोको भवति पुनर्भुवापरः पतिः । योऽजं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
He becomes of equal world, reborn, with another husband, who gives the goat with five rice portions as the sacrificial gift of light.
अनुपूर्ववत्सां धेनुमनड्वाहमुपबर्हणम् । वासो हिरण्यं दत्त्वा ते यन्ति दिवमुत्तमाम्
Giving a cow with a calf, a draught ox, a seat, a garment, and gold, they go to the highest heaven.
आत्मानं पितरं पुत्रं पौत्रं पितामहम् । जायां जनित्रीं मातरं ये प्रियास्तान् उप ह्वये
I call upon those who are dear: oneself, father, son, grandson, great-grandfather, wife, mother, and birth-giver.
{१३} यो वै नैदाघं नामर्तुं वेद । एष वै नैदाघो नामर्तुर्यदजः पञ्चौदनः । निरेवाप्रियस्य भ्रातृव्यस्य श्रियं दहति भवत्यात्मना । योऽजं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
He who does not know the summer or winter; this, indeed, is the summer and winter—the goat with five rice portions; it burns away the wealth of the unfriendly and becomes his own; he who gives the goat with five rice portions as the sacrificial gift of light.
यो वै कुर्वन्तं नामर्तुं वेद । कुर्वतींकुर्वतीमेवाप्रियस्य भ्रातृव्यस्य श्रियमा दत्ते । एष वै कुर्वन् नामर्तुर्यदजः पञ्चौदनः । निरेवाप्रियस्य भ्रातृव्यस्य श्रियं दहति भवत्यात्मना । योऽजं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
Whoever knows the one who acts as not to be harmed, to her, to her alone, he gives the wealth of the disliked rival. Truly, the one who acts as not to be harmed is this: the goat with five rice-dishes. He, by his own act, burns up the wealth of the disliked rival. Whoever gives the goat with five rice-dishes as a southern light-offering.

Whoever knows the one who overcomes as not to be harmed, to her, to her alone, he gives the wealth of the disliked rival. Truly, the one who overcomes as not to be harmed is this: the goat with five rice-dishes. He, by his own act, burns up the wealth of the disliked rival. Whoever gives the goat with five rice-dishes as a southern light-offering.
अजं च पचत पञ्च चौदनान् । सर्वा दिशः संमनसः सध्रीचीः सान्तर्देशाः प्रति गृह्णन्तु त एतम्
Cook the goat and the five rice-dishes; let all the directions, united in mind, harmonious, and the intermediate regions, accept this for you.
तास्ते रक्षन्तु तव तुभ्यमेतं ताभ्य आज्यं हविरिदं जुहोमि
May those (directions) protect this for you; to them I offer this clarified butter and oblation.
यो विद्याद्ब्रह्म प्रत्यक्षं परूंषि यस्य संभारा ऋचो यस्यानूक्यम्
He who knows the Brahman as manifest, whose components are the hymns, whose recitation is the chanting.
सामानि यस्य लोमानि यजुर्हृदयमुच्यते परिस्तरणमिद्धविः
Whose hairs are the Sāmans, whose heart is said to be the Yajus, whose covering is the kindling.
यद्वा अतिथिपतिरतिथीन् प्रतिपश्यति देवयजनं प्रेक्षते
Or when the lord of guests looks upon the guests, he beholds the place of the gods.
यदभिवदति दीक्षामुपैति यदुदकं याचत्यपः प्र णयति
When he speaks, undertakes consecration, asks for water, or leads forth the waters.
या एव यज्ञ आपः प्रणीयन्ते ता एव ताः
Those very waters which are led forth for the sacrifice, those indeed are they.
यत्तर्पणमाहरन्ति य एवाग्नीषोमीयः पशुर्बध्यते स एव सः
Whatever offering they bring, and whichever Agniṣomīya animal is slain, that indeed is it.
यदावसथान् कल्पयन्ति सदोहविर्धानान्येव तत्कल्पयन्ति
When they prepare the dwelling-places, they are indeed preparing the seats and the offering-holders.
यदुपस्तृणन्ति बर्हिरेव तत्
Whatever they spread as the sacred grass, that indeed is it.
यदुपरिशयनमाहरन्ति स्वर्गमेव तेन लोकमव रुन्द्धे
Whatever they bring as the upper covering, by that he secures the heavenly world.
यत्कशिपूपबर्हणमाहरन्ति परिधय एव ते
Whatever they bring as the cushion, those indeed are the enclosing sticks.
यदाञ्जनाभ्यञ्जनमाहरन्त्याज्यमेव तत्
Whatever they bring as the anointing, that indeed is the clarified butter.
