Sweet is the root, sweet the tip, sweet the middle of these plants; sweet are their leaves, sweet their flowers; born of honey, they are the food of immortality, yielding ghee and nourishment for the cow and the bull.
As many and as great herbs as are on this earth, may those thousand-leaved ones release me from death and from harm.
The tiger-stone of the plants, protecting from curses, ward off all diseases and destroy all dangers far from us.
As the roar of a lion or the crackling of fire scatters, so may the disease of cattle and men be driven away by the plants, and may the flow of illness go to the river.
The herbs, released from the universal fire, spreading over the earth, whose king is the Lord of the Forest, have grown.
May those Angirasa herbs, which grow on mountains and on level ground, be rich in milk, auspicious, and bring well-being to our hearts.
The herbs which I know, and those I see with my eyes, and those unknown which we learn of, and those we know together—
May all the herbs, in their entirety, heed my words, as we lead this man across from misfortune.
The sacred fig, the darbha grass, the plants, Soma the king, the immortal offering, rice and barley, the remedies, children of heaven, immortal—
Rise up, O herbs, thundering and crying aloud, when the rain-bringing cloud, your variegated mother, pours down seed.
Of that immortality, may we impart this strength to the man; and I prepare the remedy so that he may live a hundred autumns.
The boar knows the plants, the mongoose knows the remedies; the serpents and Gandharvas who know them, I call them here for help.
The winged ones, the Angirasa plants, those known by the Raghaṭa, the birds, the swans, and all flying creatures who know them, and the wild animals who know the herbs—I call them here for help.
As many herbs as the cows, the unyoked ones, eat, and as many as the goats eat, may so many herbs, O gathered ones, grant you protection.
As many remedies as the physicians among men know, so many universal remedies do I bring to you.
May the flowering, blossoming, and fruit-bearing (plants), and even those without fruit, like mothers yielding milk, grant us freedom from harm.
From you I have removed the fivefold fetter, and also the tenfold fetter; and likewise the snare of Yama, and all divine transgressions.
Let Indra, the powerful, heroic, and city-breaking Shakra, grind down (the enemy), just as we strike down thousands of the armies of our foes.
Let the foul cord, the swelling up, make that hostile army foul; let the smoke reveal the fire—may the enemies hold fear in their hearts.
O Ashvattha, cut them off; devour them, O Khadira and Arjuna; let them be broken like brittle reeds, let the slayer strike them down with weapons.
Let the harsh ones be made harsh by the Harsh-named; let the slayer strike them down with weapons; let them be swiftly shattered like an arrow, bound together in a great net.
The net was spread in the sky, with net-staves to the directions and the earth; with that, Shakra struck down the armies of the Dasyus.
For great indeed is the net of the mighty Shakra, the possessor of horses; with it, subdue all the enemies, so that not one of them escapes.
Great is your net, O mighty Indra, heroic one of a thousand prizes, of a hundred powers; with it, Shakra, you struck down a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand Dasyus, attacking with your army.
This world became the net of great Shakra; with Indra's net, I envelop all those (enemies) in darkness.
Let fever, fierce growth, distress, and banishment; fatigue, weariness, and delusion—by these I envelop all those (enemies).
I deliver these (enemies) to death, bound with the snares of death; those who are the messengers of death, the agents of destruction, to them I hand these over, having bound them.
Let the messengers of death, the messengers of Yama, lead them away; let thousands upon thousands be slain, let them become as grass, O Slayer, by your might.
The Sādhyas raise one net-staff with power; the Rudras one, the Vasus one, and the Ādityas one, each raised with power.
