मुञ्चन्तु मा शपथ्यादथो वरुण्यादुत । अथो यमस्य पड्वीशाद्विश्वस्माद्देवकिल्बिषात्
May they release me from curses, and also from the wrath of Varuna, and from the fetter of Yama, from every divine offense.
तृष्टिके तृष्टवन्दन उदमूं छिन्धि तृष्टिके । यथा कृतद्विष्टासोऽमुष्मै शेप्यावते
O thirst, O thirst-remover, cut off that thirst; as those who have done wrong are bound for him, so bind it for the one who is to be bound.
तृष्टासि तृष्टिका विषा विषातक्यसि । परिवृक्ता यथासस्यृषभस्य वशेव
You are thirst, O thirst-remover, you are poison, you are the poison-remover; as the rope is loosened from the bull, so release me.
7.119(7.114) आ ते ददे वक्षणाभ्य आ तेऽहं हृदयाद्ददे । आ ते मुखस्य सङ्काशात्सर्वं ते वर्च आ ददे
To you I give from my sides, to you I give from my heart, to you I give from the brightness of my mouth—thus I give you all your radiance.
प्रेतो यन्तु व्याध्यः प्रानुध्याः प्रो अशस्तयः । अग्नी रक्षस्विनीर्हन्तु सोमो हन्तु दुरस्यतीः
Let the diseases depart, let the evil words be driven away; let Agni destroy the harmful ones, let Soma destroy the malevolent.
प्र पतेतः पापि लक्ष्मि नश्येतः प्रामुतः पत । अयस्मयेनाङ्केन द्विषते त्वा सजामसि
Let the evil mark fall away, let it perish, let it utterly fall; with an iron brand I join you to your enemy.
या मा लक्ष्मीः पतयालूरजुष्टाभिचस्कन्द वन्दनेव वृक्षम् । अन्यत्रास्मत्सवितस्तामितो धा हिरण्यहस्तो वसु नो रराणः
Whatever misfortune, joined with poverty and ill-will, has fallen upon me, as a creeper falls from a tree—O Savitar, golden-handed, bestower of wealth, carry that away elsewhere from us.
एकशतं लक्ष्म्यो मर्त्यस्य साकं तन्वा जनुषोऽधि जाताः । तासां पापिष्ठा निरितः प्र हिण्मः शिवा अस्मभ्यं जातवेदो नियच्छ
A hundred forms of misfortune are born together with the mortal, with his body and life; among them, we drive away the most sinful, the ruinous ones—O Jātavedas, grant us the auspicious.
एता एना व्याकरं खिले गा विष्ठिता इव । रमन्तां पुण्या लक्ष्मीर्याः पापीस्ता अनीनशम्
With these (words) I separate out, as one sorts cows in a herd; let the auspicious fortunes delight here, and let the most wicked ones depart from us.
नमो रूराय च्यवनाय नोदनाय धृष्णवे । नमः शीताय पूर्वकामकृत्वने
Homage to Rūrā, to the one who moves, to the impeller, to the bold; homage to the cold one, to the fulfiller of ancient desires.
यो अन्येद्युरुभयद्युरभ्येतीमं मण्डूकम् । अभ्येत्वव्रतः
Whoever, on another day or on both days, approaches this frog—let him, who is without vows, approach.
आ मन्द्रैरिन्द्र हरिभिर्याहि मयूररोमभिः । मा त्वा के चिद्वि यमन् विं न पाशिनोऽति धन्वेव तामिहि
Come, Indra, with your delightful tawny horses adorned with peacock feathers; let no one restrain you, let not the binders hold you back—come straight like an arrow, come here.
मर्माणि ते वर्मणा छादयामि सोमस्त्वा राजामृतेनानु वस्ताम् । उरोर्वरीयो वरुणस्ते कृणोतु जयन्तं त्वानु देवा मदन्तु
I cover your vital spots with armor; may Soma, the king, anoint you with immortality; may Varuṇa make you broad-chested; may the gods make you victorious and rejoice in you.
अन्तकाय मृत्यवे नमः प्राणा अपाना इह ते रमन्ताम् । इहायमस्तु पुरुषः सहासुना सूर्यस्य भागे अमृतस्य लोके
Homage to Death, to the Ender; may your breaths and out-breaths remain here; may this person stay here with life, in the portion of the Sun, in the world of immortality.
उदेनं भगो अग्रभीदुदेनं सोमो अंशुमान् । उदेनं मरुतो देवा उदिन्द्राग्नी स्वस्तये
May Bhaga raise him up, may Soma the radiant raise him up, may the Maruts, the gods, raise him up, and Indra and Agni for well-being.
इह तेऽसुरिह प्राण इहायुरिह ते मनः । उत्त्वा निर्ऋत्याः पाशेभ्यो दैव्या वचा भरामसि
Here is your breath, here your life, here your mind; we take you away from the snares of Nirṛti by the words of the gods.
उत्क्रामातः पुरुष माव पत्था मृत्योः पड्वीषमवमुञ्चमानः । मा छित्था अस्माल्लोकादग्नेः सूर्यस्य संदृशः
Rise up, O person, do not follow the path of death; do not go to the broad house, do not depart from this world, from the sight of Agni and the Sun.
तुभ्यं वातः पवतां मातरिश्वा तुभ्यं वर्षन्त्वमृतान्यापः । सूर्यस्ते तन्वे शं तपाति त्वां मृत्युर्दयतां मा प्र मेष्ठाः
May the wind blow for you, O Mātariśvan; may the immortal waters rain for you; may the Sun shine well-being upon your body; may Death be merciful to you—do not go away.
उद्यानं ते पुरुष नावयानं जीवातुं ते दक्षतातिं कृणोमि । आ हि रोहेमममृतं सुखं रथमथ जिर्विर्विदथमा वदासि
I make for you, O person, a path for returning, a boat for living, skill for your vigor; come, ascend this immortal, pleasant chariot, and speak with clear voice.
मा ते मनस्तत्र गान् मा तिरो भून् मा जीवेभ्यः प्र मदो मानु गाः पितॄन् । विश्वे देवा अभि रक्षन्तु त्वेह
Let not your mind go there, let it not vanish; do not depart from the living, do not go to the ancestors; may all the gods protect you here.
मा गतानामा दीधीथा ये नयन्ति परावतम् । आ रोह तमसो ज्योतिरेह्या ते हस्तौ रभामहे
Do not long for those who have gone, who lead to the distant place; ascend from darkness to light—come, we take your hands.
श्यामश्च त्वा मा शबलश्च प्रेषितौ यमस्य यौ पथिरक्षी श्वानौ । अर्वाङेहि मा वि दीध्यो मात्र तिष्ठः पराङ्मनाः
The black and the spotted, the two messengers of Yama, the dogs who guard the road—come this way, do not scatter, do not stand apart with a turned mind.
मैतं पन्थामनु गा भीम एष येन पूर्वं नेयथ तं ब्रवीमि । तम एतत्पुरुष मा प्र पत्था भयं परस्तादभयं ते अर्वाक्
Do not go on that path, it is dreadful, which they led before—I tell you; O person, do not follow that way; there is fear beyond, safety is here for you.
{१} रक्षन्तु त्वाग्नयो ये अप्स्वन्ता रक्षतु त्वा मनुष्या यमिन्धते । वैश्वानरो रक्षतु जातवेदा दिव्यस्त्वा मा प्र धाग्विद्युता सह
May the fires that are in the waters protect you, may the fire kindled by men protect you; may Vaiśvānara, Jātavedas, protect you; may the divine one not drive you away together with lightning.
मा त्वा क्रव्यादभि मंस्तारात्संकसुकाच्चर रक्षतु त्वा द्यौ रक्षतु । पृथिवी सूर्यश्च त्वा रक्षतां चन्द्रमाश्च । अन्तरिक्षं रक्षतु देवहेत्याः
Let not the flesh-eater harm you; may you be protected from the one who brings distress. May the sky protect you, may the earth and the sun protect you, may the moon protect you. May the midspace protect you from divine weapons.
बोधश्च त्वा प्रतिबोधश्च रक्षतामस्वप्नश्च त्वानवद्राणश्च रक्षताम् । गोपायंश्च त्वा जागृविश्च रक्षताम्
May wakefulness and alertness protect you; may dreamless sleep and undisturbed rest protect you. May the guardian and the watchful one protect you.
ते त्वा रक्षन्तु ते त्वा गोपायन्तु तेभ्यो नमस्तेभ्यः स्वाहा
May they protect you, may they guard you. Salutation to them, to them offering is made.
जीवेभ्यस्त्वा समुदे वायुरिन्द्रो धाता दधातु सविता त्रायमाणः । मा त्वा प्राणो बलं हासीदसुं तेऽनु ह्वयामसि
May Vāyu, Indra, Dhātṛ, and Savitṛ, the preserver, grant you life among the living. Let not your breath, your strength, depart; we call your vital spirit back.
मा त्वा जम्भः संहनुर्मा तमो विदन् मा जिह्वा बर्हिस्प्रमयुः कथा स्याः । उत्त्वादित्या वसवो भरन्तूदिन्द्राग्नी स्वस्तये
Let not the demon Jambha, nor crushing force, nor darkness harm you; let not your tongue wander to the sacrificial grass. May the Ādityas and Vasus bear you up, may Indra and Agni bring you well-being.
उत्त्वा द्यौरुत्पृथिव्युत्प्रजापतिरग्रभीत्। उत्त्वा मृत्योरोषधयः सोमराज्ञीरपीपरन्
May the sky, the earth, and Prajāpati uphold you; may the plants and the queen Soma fill you with life, away from death.
