I loosen your strap, your harness, your binding; here and now, Agni, may you blaze unceasingly.
To him who upholds powers, O Agni, I yoke you with divine prayer; shine for us here with wealth and blessings; speak kindly to us, you who give offerings to the gods.
That share which the gods made for you, gathering together at the new moon in greatness—by that, protect our sacrifice, O all-encompassing one; grant us wealth, O fortunate one, and noble offspring.
I myself am this new moon; the virtuous dwell in me; in me, both the gods and the Sādhyas, with Indra as their chief, have all assembled.
Night has come, the gatherer of treasures, bringing strength and nourishment, entering among the riches; we offer with oblation to the new moon, who, milking out strength, has come with abundance like milk.
On the new moon, no one else but you has created all these forms, O all-pervading one; whatever desires we offer, may they be fulfilled; may we become masters of wealth.
Full behind and full before, rising in the midst, the full moon has triumphed; in her, dwelling with the gods in greatness, may we rejoice with offerings on the summit of heaven.
We sacrifice to the bull, the vigorous one, the full moon; may he grant us inexhaustible, ever-increasing wealth.
O Lord of creatures, no one else but you has created all these forms; whatever desires we offer, may they be fulfilled; may we become masters of wealth.
The full moon was the first to be worthy of sacrifice among nights, surpassing the others; those who honor you, O worthy of sacrifice, with offerings, they, the virtuous, have entered heaven.
Moving forward and back by their magic, these two children play, circling the ocean; one surveys all beings, the other arranges the seasons; you are born anew.
Ever new, you are born again and again, herald of days, you come first with the dawn; you distribute the share to the gods as you move, O radiant moon, granting long life.
You are a portion of Soma, lord of battles; your name is 'not lacking'; make us not lacking in offspring and wealth.
You are the new moon, you are the visible one, you are whole, you are complete; may I be whole and complete with cows, horses, offspring, cattle, houses, and wealth.
Whosoever hates us, and whom we hate—may you, with your very breath, fill him up. And may we be filled with cows, horses, offspring, cattle, homes, and wealth.
He whom the gods, with Soma, cause to thrive, whom the undying ones feed—may Indra, Varuṇa, and Bṛhaspati, the guardians of the world, make us thrive with him.
Offer up the well-praised, cattle-bringing hymn; grant us auspicious riches. Lead this sacrifice for us, O gods; let streams of ghee, sweet with honey, flow forth.
At the forefront, I receive Agni, along with sovereignty, brilliance, and strength. In me I place offspring, in me I place life—Svāhā!—in me, Agni.
Here, Agni, establish wealth for me; let not those of old intent, the destroyers, take you away. With sovereignty, Agni, may there be good control for you; may your worshipper, unwearied, grow for you.
Agni followed after all the Dawns; day after day, the first Knower-of-beings. He followed after the rays of the Sun, after the Dawns, and entered into heaven and earth.
Agni shone forth before all the Dawns; day after day, the first Knower-of-beings. He spread out, in many ways, the rays of the Sun; he extended over heaven and earth.
Ghee is yours, Agni, in the heavenly seat; with ghee, Manu kindled you today. Let the divine Daughters of the Sky bring you ghee; let the cows yield ghee for you, Agni.
In the waters, O King Varuṇa, is your golden, measured abode. From there, O king of firm vows, may you release all bonds.
From bond to bond, O King Varuṇa, release us here. When we say, 'O waters, O Varuṇa,' then, O Varuṇa, release us.
Lift from us, Varuṇa, the highest snare, loosen the lowest, and untie the middle. Then, O Āditya, in your law, may we, sinless, belong to Aditi.
Release from us, Varuṇa, all the snares—those above, those below, those of Varuṇa. Drive away evil dreams and misfortune from us; then may we reach the world of the righteous.
Unassailable, Jātavedas, immortal, glorious Agni, upholder of sovereignty—shine here! Releasing all illnesses among men, protect our life today with blessings.
Indra, you were born with strength, with power, O bull among peoples. You have driven away the hostile, unfriendly folk; you have made wide space for the gods.
Like a fearsome beast, roaming the mountains, let him come from afar, from the distant place. Fit the sharp arrow to the bow, O Indra, strike down the enemies, scatter the foes.
That strong one, yoked by the gods, bearer of might, overcomer of chariots, with unbroken wheel, swift in battle—may we call here for well-being Tārkṣya.
