ये ते पन्थानोऽव दिवो येभिर्विश्वमैरयः । तेभिः सुम्नया धेहि नो वसो
Those paths of yours in the sky, by which you move all things—by those, O gracious one, lead us to well-being.
तिरश्चिराजेरसितात्पृदाकोः परि संभृतम् । तत्कङ्कपर्वणो विषमियं वीरुदनीनशत्
Collected from the long-lived, from the black ant, from the earth mound, I gather this, the poison of the scorpion's joint, the hundred roots.
इयं वीरुन् मधुजाता मधुश्चुन् मधुला मधूः । सा विह्रुतस्य भेषज्यथो मशकजम्भनी
This herb is born of honey, sweet with honey, full of honey. It is the remedy for the scattered, and the spell against the mosquito.
यतो दष्टं यतो धीतं ततस्ते निर्ह्वयामसि । अर्भस्य तृप्रदंशिनो मशकस्यारसं विषम्
From wherever it has bitten, from wherever it has stung, from there we call it forth—the poison of the biting, stinging mosquito, without taste.
अयं यो वक्रो विपरुर्व्यङ्गो मुखानि वक्रा वृजिना कृणोषि । तानि त्वं ब्रह्मणस्पते इषीकामिव सं नमः
You who are crooked, deformed, twisted, who make faces crooked and cause harm—O Lord of Speech, straighten them as reeds are straightened.
अरसस्य शर्कोटस्य नीचीनस्योपसर्पतः । विषं ह्यस्यादिष्यथो एनमजीजभम्
The poison of the scorpion, the creeping, approaching one—this you have removed from him, and he has recovered.
न ते बाह्वोर्बलमस्ति न शीर्षे नोत मध्यतः । अथ किं पापयाऽमुया पुच्छे बिभर्ष्यर्भकम्
You have no strength in your arms, nor in your head, nor in your middle. Then why, with your evil tail, do you harm the child?
अदन्ति त्वा पिपीलिका वि वृश्चन्ति मयूर्यः । सर्वे भल ब्रवाथ शार्कोटमरसं विषम्
The ants bite you, the peafowl tear you apart. All creatures, speak out—the poison of the scorpion, tasteless.
य उभाभ्यां प्रहरसि पुच्छेन चास्येन च । आस्ये न ते विषं किमु ते पुच्छधावसत्
You who strike with both tail and mouth—there is no poison in your mouth; what then dwells in your tail?
यदाशसा वदतो मे विचुक्षुभे यद्याचमानस्य चरतो जनामनु । यदात्मनि तन्वो मे विरिष्टं सरस्वती तदा पृणद्घृतेन
Whatever has been disturbed in me as I speak, whatever as I beg or move among people, whatever has been scattered in my body—may Sarasvatī fill that with ghee.
सप्त क्षरन्ति शिशवे मरुत्वते पित्रे पुत्रासो अप्यवीवृतन्न् ऋतानि । उभे इदस्योभे अस्य राजत उभे यतेते उभे अस्य पुष्यतः
Seven sons flow for the child, for the father of the Maruts; the sons have revealed the truths. Both, both of these, both strive, both flourish for him.
इन्द्रावरुणा सुतपाविमं सुतं सोमं पिबतं मद्यं धृतव्रतौ । युवो रथो अध्वरो देववीतये प्रति स्वसरमुप यातु पीतये
Indra and Varuṇa, drink this pressed Soma, the intoxicating, well-prepared one, you who are firm in your vows. May your chariot, at the sacrifice, come to the offering for the gods, to drink at your own stream.
इन्द्रावरुणा मधुमत्तमस्य वृष्णः सोमस्य वृषणा वृषेथाम् । इदं वामन्धः परिषिक्तमासद्यास्मिन् बर्हिषि मादयेथाम्
O Indra and Varuṇa, may you both drink of the most honeyed, strong Soma; may you come to this pressed libation, sprinkled here, and rejoice upon this sacred grass.
यो नः शपादशपतः शपतो यश्च नः शपात्। वृक्ष इव विद्युता हत आ मूलादनु शुष्यतु
Whoever curses us, or does not curse us, or whoever curses us in any way—may he wither away from the root, like a tree struck by lightning.
ऊर्जं बिभ्रद्वसुवनिः सुमेधा अघोरेण चक्षुषा मित्रियेण । गृहान् ऐमि सुमना वन्दमानो रमध्वं मा बिभीत मत्
Bearing strength, giver of wealth, possessing good wisdom, with an unharmful, friendly gaze, I approach the houses, well-minded and reverent; rejoice, do not fear me.
इमे गृहा मयोभुव ऊर्जस्वन्तः पयस्वन्तः । पूर्णा वामेन तिष्ठन्तस्ते नो जानन्त्वायतः
These houses are bringers of joy, full of strength and abundance; they stand filled with plenty on the left—may they know us as we come.
येषामध्येति प्रवसन् येषु सौमनसो बहुः । गृहान् उप ह्वयामहे ते नो जानन्त्वायतः
In whose midst the traveler dwells, in whom there is much goodwill—we call upon those houses; may they know us as we come.
उपहूता भूरिधनाः सखायः स्वादुसंमुदः । अक्षुध्या अतृष्या स्त गृहा मास्मद्बिभीतन
Summoned are the wealthy friends, sweet in gathering; houses, be without hunger and without thirst—do not fear us.
उपहूता इह गाव उपहूता अजावयः । अथो अन्नस्य कीलाल उपहूतो गृहेषु
Summoned here are the cows, summoned are the goats and sheep; and also the essence of food is summoned into the houses.
सूनृतावन्तः सुभगा इरावन्तो हसामुदाः । अतृष्या अक्षुध्या स्त गृहा मास्मद्बिभीतन
Full of good speech, fortunate, rich in refreshment, with laughter and joy; houses, be without thirst and without hunger—do not fear us.
इहैव स्त मानु गात विश्वा रूपाणि पुष्यत । ऐष्यामि भद्रेणा सह भूयांसो भवता मया
Stay right here, do not depart; flourish in all forms; I will come with good fortune—may you grow greater together with me.
यदग्ने तपसा तप उपतप्यामहे तपः । प्रियाः श्रुतस्य भूयास्मायुष्मन्तः सुमेधसः
O Agni, by the heat of austerity, we perform our austerity; may we become dear to the learned, long-lived, and wise.
अग्ने तपस्तप्यामह उप तप्यामहे तपः । श्रुतानि शृण्वन्तः वयमायुष्मन्तः सुमेधसः
Agni, we practice austerity, we perform austerity; hearing the teachings, may we be long-lived and wise.
अयमग्निः सत्पतिर्वृद्धवृष्णो रथीव पत्तीन् अजयत्पुरोहितः । नाभा पृथिव्यां निहितो दविद्युतदधस्पदं कृणुतां ये पृतन्यवः
This Agni is the true lord, ever-strong, like a charioteer who conquers foot soldiers, the priest in front; set in the navel of the earth, he flashes without thunder—may those who strive make a firm foundation.
पृतनाजितं सहमानमग्निमुक्थ्यैर्हवामहे परमात्सधस्थात्। स नः पर्षदति दुर्गाणि विश्वा क्षामद्देवोऽति दुरितान्यग्निः
We invoke Agni, conqueror in battle, enduring, with hymns of praise, from the highest seat; may he lead us through all difficulties, may the god Agni carry us beyond all misfortunes.
इदं यत्कृष्णः शकुनिरभिनिष्पतन्न् अपीपतत्। आपो मा तस्मात्सर्वस्माद्दुरितात्पान्त्वंहसः
If the black bird flies out or falls down, may the waters protect us from all that misfortune and from evil.
इदं यत्कृष्णः शकुनिरवामृक्षन् निर्ऋते ते मुखेन । अग्निर्मा तस्मादेनसो गार्हपत्यः प्र मुञ्चतु
If the black bird cries out, O goddess of destruction, with your mouth—may the household fire, Agni, release us from that offense.
प्रतीचीनफलो हि त्वमपामार्ग रुरोहिथ । सर्वान् मच्छपथामधि वरीयो यवया इतः
For you, apāmārga, who bears fruit facing backward, have grown up; drive away from here all those who walk the path of harm.
यद्दुष्कृतं यच्छमलं यद्वा चेरिम पापया । त्वया तद्विश्वतोमुखापामार्गाप मृज्महे
Whatever wrong, whatever impurity, or whatever evil we have committed, with you, apāmārga, who faces all directions, we wipe it all away.
श्यावदता कुनखिना बण्डेन यत्सहासिम । अपामार्ग त्वया वयं सर्वं तदप मृज्महे
Whatever we have shared with the dark-toothed, ill-nailed, or the outcast, with you, apāmārga, we wipe all that away.
