Just as the thunderbolt strikes down a tree without resistance, so today may I bind the gambler with the dice, without resistance.
Among the swift and the slow, among the people who are favored or not, may fortune come to me from every side, placed within my hand.
I praise Agni, the good giver, with reverence here; may he direct our actions. Like chariots in a contest, may we excel with those who bring strength; may we successfully complete the hymn of the Maruts.
With you as our ally, may we win the contest; may our share be raised in every competition. O Indra, make the path easy for us; O bountiful one, shatter the strength of our enemies.
I have conquered you, O marked one; I have conquered even the one who is restrained. Like a wolf crushes a sheep, so, O gods, I crush your work.
Even the one who is struck down rises and wins, just as the club of a dog-killer finds its mark in time. He who desires the gods does not withhold wealth; he sends forth riches to his companion by his own power.
With cows may we overcome this hostile intent, with barley or with food, O much-invoked one, in every way. Among kings may we be foremost in wealth, unharmed, victorious in contests.
The winning throw is in my right hand; victory is placed in my left. May I be a winner of cows, a winner of horses, a winner of wealth, a winner of gold.
O dice, grant a fruitful throw, like a cow that gives milk. Hold me together with the bond of the winning throw, as a bowstring binds the bow.
May Bṛhaspati protect us from behind, and from the north and the south, from harm; may Indra protect us in front and in the middle. As a friend among friends, may he make us superior.
May there be understanding among us and our own people, understanding among our allies. O Aśvins, grant understanding here among us.
Let us unite in thought, let us unite in understanding; may we not be divided in mind by divine will. Let not loud shouts arise in the assembly, nor confusion when Indra's day arrives.
If we have been bound by a curse in another place, O Bṛhaspati, release us from it. May the Aśvins drive away death from us; O Agni, physician of the gods, protect us with your powers.
Cross over together, do not abandon the body; may your life-breaths remain united here. Live a hundred autumns, growing strong; Agni is your guardian, Vasiṣṭha your lord.
May your life, which has gone far away, your outgoing and incoming breath, return again. May Agni draw you back from the grasp of Nirṛti; I restore all this to you, into yourself.
Let not your breath depart, nor your vital air go far away. I entrust this to the Seven Sages; may they carry it safely to old age for you.
Let your breath and vital air flow forth like two oxen yoked to a cart. May this store of old age, free from harm, grow here.
I call back your breath to you; I drive away disease from you. May this excellent Agni establish life everywhere.
Rising up from the darkness, ascending to the highest heaven, we have reached the god among gods, the Sun, the supreme light.
We offer the Ṛc and Sāman, by which deeds are performed. These, shining in the assembly, present the sacrifice to the gods.
Those paths of yours in the sky, by which you move all things—by those, O gracious one, lead us to well-being.
Collected from the long-lived, from the black ant, from the earth mound, I gather this, the poison of the scorpion's joint, the hundred roots.
This herb is born of honey, sweet with honey, full of honey. It is the remedy for the scattered, and the spell against the mosquito.
From wherever it has bitten, from wherever it has stung, from there we call it forth—the poison of the biting, stinging mosquito, without taste.
You who are crooked, deformed, twisted, who make faces crooked and cause harm—O Lord of Speech, straighten them as reeds are straightened.
The poison of the scorpion, the creeping, approaching one—this you have removed from him, and he has recovered.
You have no strength in your arms, nor in your head, nor in your middle. Then why, with your evil tail, do you harm the child?
The ants bite you, the peafowl tear you apart. All creatures, speak out—the poison of the scorpion, tasteless.
You who strike with both tail and mouth—there is no poison in your mouth; what then dwells in your tail?
Whatever has been disturbed in me as I speak, whatever as I beg or move among people, whatever has been scattered in my body—may Sarasvatī fill that with ghee.
