यदि वासि तिरोजनं यदि वा नद्यस्तिरः । इयं ह मह्यं त्वामोषधिर्बद्ध्वेव न्यानयत्
Whether you are beyond people, or beyond the rivers, this very plant has brought you here to me, as if bound.
दिव्यं सुपर्णं पयसं बृहन्तमपां गर्भं वृषभमोषधीनाम् । अभीपतो वृष्ट्या तर्पयन्तमा नो गोष्ठे रयिष्ठां स्थापयाति
The heavenly eagle, vast with milk, the mighty embryo of waters, the bull among plants, coming with rain, satisfying with abundance—may he establish wealth for us in the cattle-pen.
यस्य व्रतं पशवो यन्ति सर्वे यस्य व्रत उपतिष्ठन्त आपः । यस्य व्रते पुष्टपतिर्निविष्टस्तं सरस्वन्तमवसे हवामहे
He whose ordinance all cattle follow, whose ordinance the waters attend, in whose ordinance the lord of nourishment abides—him, Sarasvant, we call for help.
आ प्रत्यञ्चं दाशुषे दाश्वंसं सरस्वन्तं पुष्टपतिं रयिष्ठाम् । रायस्पोषं श्रवस्युं वसाना इह हुवेम सदनं रयीणाम्
To the one who turns towards the worshipper, Sarasvant, lord of nourishment, bestower of wealth, of abundant riches and fame, we call here, to the seat of riches.
अति धन्वान्यत्यपस्ततर्द श्येनो नृचक्षा अवसानदर्शः । तरन् विश्वान्यवरा रजांसीन्द्रेण सख्या शिव आ जगम्यात्
The falcon, keen-eyed, seeing the resting places, has crossed deserts and waters; traversing all lower realms, may he come to us in friendship with Indra, auspiciously.
श्येनो नृचक्षा दिव्यः सुपर्णः सहस्रपाच्छतयोनिर्वयोधाः । स नो नि यच्छाद्वसु यत्पराभृतमस्माकमस्तु पितृषु स्वधावत्
The falcon, keen-eyed, celestial, with beautiful wings, a thousandfold, born from strength—may he bring to us the wealth that was taken away; may our ancestors possess the portion with sustenance.
सोमारुद्रा वि वृहतं विषूचीममीवा या नो गयमाविवेश । बाधेथां दूरं निर्ऋतिं पराचैः कृतं चिदेनः प्र मुमुक्तमस्मत्
Soma and Rudras, drive away the spreading disease, whatever misfortune has entered our dwelling; repel far away the calamity, and release us even from committed sin.
सोमारुद्रा युवमेतान्यस्मद्विश्वा तनूषु भेषजानि धत्तम् । अव स्यतं मुञ्चतं यन् नो असत्तनूषु बद्धं कृतमेनो अस्मत्
Soma and Rudras, you two, place all these healing remedies in our bodies; loosen and release whatever harm or sin is bound in our bodies.
शिवास्त एका अशिवास्त एकाः सर्वा बिभर्षि सुमनस्यमानः । तिस्रो वाचो निहिता अन्तरस्मिन् तासामेका वि पपातानु घोषम्
Some of your words are auspicious, some inauspicious; you bear them all with a kindly mind. Three voices are placed within you; of these, one has fallen forth, following the sound.
उभा जिग्यथुर्न परा जयेथे न परा जिग्ये कतरश्चनैनयोः । इन्द्रश्च विष्णो यदपस्पृधेथां त्रेधा सहस्रं वि तदैरयेथाम्
Both strive, neither is defeated, nor does either overcome; neither of these two is conquered. When you, Indra and Vishnu, have striven, you would win a thousandfold in threefold measure.
जनाद्विश्वजनीनात्सिन्धुतस्पर्याभृतम् । दूरात्त्वा मन्य उद्भृतमीर्ष्याया नाम भेषजम्
From people, from all peoples, from the river, from the mountain, from afar you are raised, O remedy for jealousy, by name.
सिनीवालि पृथुष्टुके या देवानामसि स्वसा । जुषस्व हव्यमाहुतं प्रजां देवि दिदिड्ढि नः
Sinivali, broad-hipped, who is the sister of the gods, accept the offered oblation; O goddess, grant us offspring.
या सुबाहुः स्वङ्गुरिः सुषूमा बहुसूवरी । तस्यै विश्पत्न्यै हविः सिनीवाल्यै जुहोतन
She who has beautiful arms, lovely fingers, is full of strength, and has many children—to that mistress of the people, to Sinivali, offer the oblation.
या विश्पत्नीन्द्रमसि प्रतीची सहस्रस्तुकाभियन्ती देवी । विष्णोः पत्नि तुभ्यं राता हवींषि पतिं देवि राधसे चोदयस्व
She who is the mistress of the people, who is Indra’s, receptive, approaching with a thousand forms, the goddess; O wife of Vishnu, to you the offerings are given—urge your husband, O goddess, for our prosperity.
कुहूं देवीं सुकृतं विद्मनापसमस्मिन् यज्ञे सुहवा जोहवीमि । सा नो रयिं विश्ववारं नि यछाद्ददातु वीरं शतदायमुक्थ्यम्
I invoke with knowledge the goddess Kuhū, the well-doer, at this sacrifice, easy to call. May she grant us all-embracing wealth, a heroic son, a hundredfold giver of praise.
कुहूर्देवानाममृतस्य पत्नी हव्या नो अस्य हविषो जुषेत । शृणोतु यज्ञमुशती नो अद्य रायस्पोषं चिकितुषी दधातु
Kuhū, wife of the immortal gods, may she accept our oblations of this offering; may she, eager, hear our sacrifice today, and grant us the nourishment of wealth.
राकामहं सुहवा सुष्टुती हुवे शृणोतु नः सुभगा बोधतु त्मना । सीव्यत्वपः सूच्याछिद्यमानया ददातु वीरं शतदायमुक्थ्यम्
I invoke Rākā, who is gracious and well-praised; may she listen to us, may the fortunate one attend to us in spirit. May she sew together the garment with a needle that does not cut, and grant a heroic son, a giver of a hundred gifts, worthy of praise.
यास्ते राके सुमतयः सुपेशसो याभिर्ददासि दाशुषे वसूनि । ताभिर्नो अद्य सुमना उपागहि सहस्रापोषं सुभगे रराणा
O Rākā, those benevolent and beautiful favors of yours, by which you give treasures to the worshipper—by those, come to us today with a kindly mind, O fortunate one, bestowing abundant wealth.
देवानां पत्नीरुशतीरवन्तु नः प्रावन्तु नस्तुजये वाजसातये । याः पार्थिवासो या अपामपि व्रते ता नो देवीः सुहवाः शर्म यच्छन्तु
May the shining wives of the gods protect us, may they grant us victory and the winning of strength. Those who dwell on earth and those who have dominion over the waters—may those gracious goddesses bestow their protection upon us.
उत ग्ना व्यन्तु देवपत्नीरिन्द्राण्यग्नाय्यश्विनी राट्। आ रोदसी वरुणानी शृणोतु व्यन्तु देवीर्य ऋतुर्जनीनाम्
And may the goddesses, the wives of the gods, come to us—Indrāṇī, Agnāyī, Aśvinī, Rāṭ; the two worlds, Varuṇānī—may she listen; may the goddesses, the mothers of the seasons, come to us.
7.50(7.52) यथा वृक्षमशनिर्विश्वाहा हन्त्यप्रति । एवाहमद्य कितवान् अक्षैर्बध्यासमप्रति
Just as the thunderbolt strikes down a tree without resistance, so today may I bind the gambler with the dice, without resistance.
तुराणामतुराणां विशामवर्जुषीणाम् । समैतु विश्वतो भगो अन्तर्हस्तं कृतं मम
Among the swift and the slow, among the people who are favored or not, may fortune come to me from every side, placed within my hand.
ईडे अग्निं स्वावसुं नमोभिरिह प्रसक्तो वि चयत्कृतं नः । रथैरिव प्र भरे वाजयद्भिः प्रदक्षिणं मरुतां स्तोममृध्याम्
I praise Agni, the good giver, with reverence here; may he direct our actions. Like chariots in a contest, may we excel with those who bring strength; may we successfully complete the hymn of the Maruts.
वयं जयेम त्वया युजा वृतमस्माकमंशमुदवा भरेभरे । अस्मभ्यमिन्द्र वरीयः सुगं कृधि प्र शत्रूणां मघवन् वृष्ण्या रुज
With you as our ally, may we win the contest; may our share be raised in every competition. O Indra, make the path easy for us; O bountiful one, shatter the strength of our enemies.
अजैषं त्वा संलिखितमजैषमुत संरुधम् । अविं वृको यथा मथदेवा मथ्नामि ते कृतम्
I have conquered you, O marked one; I have conquered even the one who is restrained. Like a wolf crushes a sheep, so, O gods, I crush your work.
उत प्रहामतिदीवा जयति कृतमिव श्वघ्नी वि चिनोति काले । यो देवकामो न धनं रुणद्धि समित्तं रायः सृजति स्वधाभिः
Even the one who is struck down rises and wins, just as the club of a dog-killer finds its mark in time. He who desires the gods does not withhold wealth; he sends forth riches to his companion by his own power.
गोभिष्टरेमामतिं दुरेवां यवेन वा क्षुधं पुरुहूत विश्वे । वयं राजसु प्रथमा धनान्यरिष्टासो वृजनीभिर्जयेम
With cows may we overcome this hostile intent, with barley or with food, O much-invoked one, in every way. Among kings may we be foremost in wealth, unharmed, victorious in contests.
कृतं मे दक्षिणे हस्ते जयो मे सव्य आहितः । गोजिद्भूयासमश्वजिद्धनंजयो हिरण्यजित्
The winning throw is in my right hand; victory is placed in my left. May I be a winner of cows, a winner of horses, a winner of wealth, a winner of gold.
अक्षाः फलवतीं द्युवं दत्त गां क्षीरिणीमिव । सं मा कृतस्य धारया धनुः स्नाव्नेव नह्यत
O dice, grant a fruitful throw, like a cow that gives milk. Hold me together with the bond of the winning throw, as a bowstring binds the bow.
बृहस्पतिर्नः परि पातु पश्चादुतोत्तरस्मादधरादघायोः । इन्द्रः पुरस्तादुत मध्यतो नः सखा सखिभ्यो वरीयः कृणोतु
May Bṛhaspati protect us from behind, and from the north and the south, from harm; may Indra protect us in front and in the middle. As a friend among friends, may he make us superior.
