ब्रध्नः समीचीरुषसः समैरयन् । अरेपसः सचेतसः स्वसरे मन्युमत्तमाश्चिते गोः
The bright ones have brought together the dawns in harmony; the sinless, the mindful, in their own place, have gathered the most wrathful powers of the cow.
दौष्वप्न्यं दौर्जीवित्यं रक्षो अभ्वमराय्यः । दुर्णाम्नीः सर्वा दुर्वाचस्ता अस्मन् नाशयामसि
Evil dreams, misfortune, demons, hostility, all ill-named and evil words—we drive these away from us.
यन् न इन्द्रो अखनद्यदग्निर्विश्वे देवा मरुतो यत्स्वर्काः । तदस्मभ्यं सविता सत्यधर्मा प्रजापतिरनुमतिर्नि यच्छात्
Whatever Indra, Agni, all the gods, the Maruts, and the radiant ones have not broken—may Savitar of true order, Prajapati, and Anumati grant that to us.
ययोरोजसा स्कभिता रजांसि यौ वीर्यैर्वीरतमा शविष्ठा । यौ पत्येते अप्रतीतौ सहोभिर्विष्णुमगन् वरुणं पूर्वहूतिः
By whose power the regions are supported, who are most heroic and mighty in their strength, who rule with unconquered powers—Vishnu and Varuna, the ancient invocation.
यस्येदं प्रदिशि यद्विरोचते प्र चानति वि च चष्टे शचीभिः । पुरा देवस्य धर्मणा सहोभिर्विष्णुमगन् वरुणं पूर्वहूतिः
By whose command and radiance this is established, who advances and beholds with their powers—of old, by the law of the god, with their might, Vishnu and Varuna, the ancient invocation.
विष्णोर्नु कं प्रा वोचं वीर्याणि यः पार्थिवानि विममे रजांसि । यो अस्कभायदुत्तरं सधस्थं विचक्रमाणस्त्रेधोरुगायः
Whose heroic deeds of Vishnu shall I proclaim? He who measured the earthly regions, who propped up the upper seat, who, in three wide strides, traversed for the wide-goer.
प्र तद्विष्णु स्तवते वीर्याणि मृगो न भीमः कुचरो गिरिष्ठाः । परावत आ जगम्यात्परस्याः
The heroic deeds of Vishnu are sung forth, like a mighty wild beast roaming the mountains; he has reached the distant realms beyond.
यस्योरुषु त्रिषु विक्रमणेष्वधिक्षियन्ति भुवनानि विश्वा । उरु विष्णो वि क्रमस्वोरु क्षयाय नस्कृधि । घृतं घृतयोने पिब प्रप्र यज्ञपतिं तिर
In whose three wide strides all the worlds abide; O Vishnu, stride widely for us, grant us a broad dwelling; drink the ghee, O ghee-born, go forth to the lord of the sacrifice.
इदं विष्णुर्वि चक्रमे त्रेधा नि दधे पदा । समूढमस्य पंसुरे
Vishnu has indeed stridden this, placing his foot three times; his path is hidden in the dust.
त्रीणि पदा वि चक्रमे विष्णुर्गोपा अदाभ्यः । इतो धर्माणि धारयन्
Vishnu, the guardian, unassailable, has stridden three steps; upholding the laws from here.
विष्णोः कर्माणि पश्यत यतो व्रतानि पस्पशे । इन्द्रस्य युज्यः सखा
Behold the deeds of Vishnu, from whom the sacred vows have arisen; he is the fitting companion of Indra.
तद्विष्णोः परमं पदं सदा पश्यन्ति सूरयः । दिवीव चक्षुराततम्
That highest abode of Vishnu the wise always behold, as if an eye is extended in the sky.
दिवो विष्ण उत वा पृथिव्या महो विष्ण उरोरन्तरिक्षात्। हस्तौ पृणस्व बहुभिर्वसव्यैराप्रयच्छ दक्षिणादोत सव्यात्
From heaven, O Vishnu, or from earth, from the vastness of the midspace, fill my hands with many riches, grant from the right and also from the left.
वेदः स्वस्तिर्द्रुघणः स्वस्तिः परशुर्वेदिः परशुर्नः स्वस्ति । हविष्कृतो यज्ञिया यज्ञकामास्ते देवासो यज्ञमिमं जुषन्ताम्
The Veda is auspicious, the destroyer is auspicious, the axe is auspicious, the altar is auspicious, the axe brings us auspiciousness; may the gods who desire sacrifice, who are invoked with offerings, be pleased with this sacrifice.
अग्नाविष्णू महि तद्वां महित्वं पाथो घृतस्य गुह्यस्य नाम । दमेदमे सप्त रत्ना दधानौ प्रति वां जिह्वा घृतमा चरण्यात्
O Agni and Vishnu, great is your greatness; the path of ghee, the secret name; you both bear seven treasures, let your tongue move with ghee for our benefit.
अग्नाविष्णू महि धाम प्रियं वां वीथो घृतस्य गुह्या जुषाणौ । दमेदमे सुष्टुत्या वावृधानौ प्रति वां जिह्वा घृतमुच्चरण्यात्
O Agni and Vishnu, great is your dwelling, dear to you; you both delight in the secret ghee; you both grow through praise, let your tongue utter ghee for our benefit.
स्वाक्तं मे द्यावापृथिवी स्वाक्तं मित्रो अकरयम् । स्वाक्तं मे ब्रह्मणस्पतिः स्वाक्तं सविता करत्
Heaven and earth have made me well-prepared, Mitra has made me well-prepared, Brahmanaspati has made me well-prepared, Savitar has made me well-prepared.
इन्द्रोतिभिर्बहुलाभिर्नो अद्य यावच्छ्रेष्ठाभिर्मघवन् छूर जिन्व । यो नो द्वेष्ट्यधर सस्पदीष्ट यमु द्विष्मस्तमु प्राणो जहातु
O Indra, invigorate us today with abundant and best powers, O mighty one; whoever hates us, let him be defeated, and whom we hate, let life depart from him.
उप प्रियं पनिप्नतं युवानमाहुतीवृधम् । अगन्म बिभ्रतो नमो दीर्घमायुः कृणोतु मे
Approach the beloved youth, grown through invocation; we have come bearing reverence, may he grant me long life.
सं मा सिञ्चन्तु मरुतः सं पूषा सं बृहस्पतिः । सं मायमग्निः सिञ्चतु प्रजया च धनेन च दीर्घमायुः कृणोतु मे
May the Maruts unite me, may Pūṣan unite me, may Bṛhaspati unite me; may Agni unite me with offspring and wealth, may he grant me long life.
अग्ने जातान् प्र णुदा मे सपत्नान् प्रत्यजातान् जातवेदो नुदस्व । अधस्पदं कृणुष्व ये पृतन्यवोऽनागसस्ते वयमदितये स्याम
O Agni, drive away those born as my rivals, Jātavedas, drive away those who have arisen against me; make their place below, let those who strive against us be harmless, may we belong to Aditi.
प्रान्यान्त्सपत्नान्त्सहसा सहस्व प्रत्यजातान् जातवेदो नुदस्व । इदं राष्ट्रं पिपृहि सौभगाय विश्व एनमनु मदन्तु देवाः
Drive away the rivals who have arisen, overcome them with force, Jātavedas, drive away those who have arisen against me; protect this realm for prosperity, may all the gods follow it after me.
इमा यास्ते शतं हिराः सहस्रं धमनीरुत । तासां ते सर्वासामहमश्मना बिलमप्यधाम्
These hundred veins of yours, and a thousand channels, I have blocked all of them with stone.
परं योनेरवरं ते कृणोमि मा त्वा प्रजाभि भून् मोत सूतुः । अस्वं त्वाप्रजसं कृणोम्यश्मानं ते अपिधानं कृणोमि
I make your lower origin distant, let you not be fruitful nor a parent; I make you without offspring, I make a stone covering for you.
अक्ष्यौ नौ मधुसंकाशे अनीकं नौ समञ्जनम् । अन्तः कृष्णुष्व मां हृदि मन इन् नौ सहासति
May our eyes be like honey, may our faces be adorned; let me be joined within your heart, may our minds be united with strength.
अभि त्वा मनुजातेन दधामि मम वाससा । याथाऽसो मम केवलो नान्यासां कीर्तयाश्चन
I place you with human birth, with my garment; may you be mine alone, not belonging to others, nor to their praise.
7.38(७.३९) इदं खनामि भेषजं मांपश्यमभिरोरुदम् । परायतो निवर्तनमायतः प्रतिनन्दनम्
I dig this remedy, a healing herb, for my sight and delight; for the return of one gone away, for the welcome of one who has come.
येना निचक्र आसुरीन्द्रं देवेभ्यस्परि । तेना नि कुर्वे त्वामहं यथा तेऽसानि सुप्रिया
With that by which the Asuri bound Indra apart from the gods, with that I bind you, so that you may be most dear.
प्रतीची सोममसि प्रतीची उत सूर्यम् । प्रतीची विश्वान् देवान् तां त्वाछावदामसि
You are receptive to Soma, receptive also to the Sun; receptive to all the gods. To you thus we address our words.
अहं वदामि नेत्त्वं सभायामह त्वं वद । ममेदसस्त्वं केवलो नान्यासां कीर्तयाश्चन
I speak, not you, in the assembly; let me speak, not you. This praise is mine alone, not belonging to others, nor to their songs.
