भगेन मा शांशपेन साकमिन्द्रेण मेदिना । कृणोमि भगिनं माप द्रान्त्वरातयः
With Bhaga, with Śāṃśapena, with Indra, with the earth, I make myself fortunate. Let adversities not approach me.
येन वृक्षामभ्यभवो भगेन वर्चसा सह । तेन मा भगिनं कृण्वप द्रान्त्वरातयः
By which you have overcome the trees, with Bhaga and with brilliance—by that, make me fortunate; let adversities not approach me.
यो अन्धो यः पुनःसरो भगो वृक्षेष्वाहितः । तेन मा भगिनं कृण्वप द्रान्त्वरातयः
O Fortune, who is blind, who returns again, who is set among the trees—by you, make me fortunate; let my enemies be exhausted.
रथजितां राथजितेयीनामप्सरसामयं स्मरः । देवाः प्र हिणुत स्मरमसौ मामनु शोचतु
The longing that belongs to the charioteers, the desire of the Apsarases—O gods, drive away that longing; let it not cause me sorrow.
असौ मे स्मरतादिति प्रियो मे स्मरतादिति । देवाः प्र हिणुत स्मरमसौ मामनु शोचतु
Let that one remember me, let my beloved remember me—O gods, drive away that longing; let it not cause me sorrow.
यथा मम स्मरादसौ नामुष्याहं कदा चन । देवाः प्र हिणुत स्मरमसौ मामनु शोचतु
As that one remembers me, so may I never remember her—O gods, drive away that longing; let it not cause me sorrow.
उन् मादयत मरुत उदन्तरिक्ष मादय । अग्न उन् मादया त्वमसौ मामनु शोचतु
O Maruts, make me rejoice; O midspace, make me rejoice; O Agni, you make me rejoice—let that longing not cause me sorrow.
नि शीर्षतो नि पत्तत आध्यो नि तिरामि ते । देवाः प्र हिणुत स्मरमसौ मामनु शोचतु
Fall down from the head, fall down from the wealth, I remove you from the body—O gods, drive away that longing; let it not cause me sorrow.
अनुमतेऽन्विदं मन्यस्वाकूते समिदं नमः । देवाः प्र हिणुत स्मरमसौ मामनु शोचतु
O Anumati, be favorable to this act; to the intention, to the offering, homage—O gods, drive away that longing; let it not cause me sorrow.
यद्धावसि त्रियोजनं पञ्चयोजनमाश्विनम् । ततस्त्वं पुनरायसि पुत्राणां नो असः पिता
When you run three leagues, five leagues, O Ashvin—then you return again; you are the father of our sons.
यं देवाः स्मरमसिञ्चन्न् अप्स्वन्तः शोशुचानं सहाध्या । तं ते तपामि वरुणस्य धर्मणा
The one whom the gods sprinkled with longing, burning within the waters, together with distress—him I scorch for you, by the ordinance of Varuṇa.
यं विश्वे देवाः स्मरमसिञ्चन्न् अप्स्वन्तः शोशुचानं सहाध्या । तं ते तपामि वरुणस्य धर्मणा
The one whom all the gods sprinkled with longing, burning within the waters, together with distress—him I scorch for you, by the ordinance of Varuṇa.
यमिन्द्राणी स्मरमसिञ्चदप्स्वन्तः शोशुचानं सहाध्या । तं ते तपामि वरुणस्य धर्मणा
The one whom Indrāṇī sprinkled with longing, burning within the waters, together with distress—him I scorch for you, by the ordinance of Varuṇa.
यमिन्द्राग्नी स्मरमसिञ्चतामप्स्वन्तः शोशुचानं सहाध्या । तं ते तपामि वरुणस्य धर्मणा
The one whom Indra and Agni sprinkled with longing, burning within the waters, together with distress—him I scorch for you, by the ordinance of Varuṇa.
यं मित्रावरुणौ स्मरमसिञ्चतामप्स्वन्तः शोशुचानं सहाध्या । तं ते तपामि वरुणस्य धर्मणा
The one whom Mitra and Varuṇa sprinkled with longing, burning within the waters, together with distress—him I scorch for you, by the ordinance of Varuṇa.
य इमां देवो मेखलामाबबन्ध यः संननाह य उ नो युयोज । यस्य देवस्य प्रशिषा चरामः स पारमिच्छात्स उ नो वि मुञ्चात्
The god who bound this girdle, who fastened it, who joined it for us—by whose command we act—may he, desiring the farther shore, release us.
आहुतास्यभिहुत ऋषीणामस्यायुधम् । पूर्वा व्रतस्य प्राश्नती वीरघ्नी भव मेखले
You are invoked, honored by the seers, the weapon of this one; first to taste the vow, slayer of heroes—be so, O girdle.
मृत्योरहं ब्रह्मचारी यदस्मि निर्याचन् भूतात्पुरुषं यमाय । तमहं ब्रह्मणा तपसा श्रमेणानयैनं मेखलया सिनामि
I am a celibate from death, as I go out, asking from the being for Yama; by Brahman, by austerity, by effort, I bring him—by this girdle I bind him.
श्रद्धाया दुहिता तपसोऽधि जाता स्वसा ऋषीणां भूतकृतां बभूव । सा नो मेखले मतिमा धेहि मेधामथो नो धेहि तप इन्द्रियं च
Born from faith, daughter of austerity, sister of the seers, made by beings—you, O girdle, grant us wisdom, grant us intelligence, and grant us austerity and strength.
यां त्वा पूर्वे भूतकृत ऋषयः परिबेधिरे । सा त्वं परि ष्वजस्व मां दीर्घायुत्वाय मेखले
You whom the ancient seers, makers of beings, have worn—do you, O girdle, embrace me for long life.
अयं वज्रस्तर्पयतामृतस्यावास्य राष्ट्रमप हन्तु जीवितम् । शृणातु ग्रीवाः प्र शृणातूष्णिहा वृत्रस्येव शचीपतिः
May this thunderbolt bring satisfaction, may it destroy the enemy's realm and take away his life; let it break his neck, let it break his collarbone, as the Lord of Power struck down Vritra.
अधरोऽधर उत्तरेभ्यो गूढः पृथिव्या मोत्सृपत्। वज्रेणावहतः शयाम्
Let the lower be hidden beneath the upper, concealed within the earth; let him lie struck down by the thunderbolt.
यो जिनाति तमन्विच्छ यो जिनाति तमिज्जहि । जिनतो वज्र त्वं सीमन्तमन्वञ्चमनु पातय
Seek out the one who overcomes, strike down the one who overcomes; O thunderbolt, bring down the crest of the one who prevails, let him fall behind.
यदश्नामि बलं कुर्व इत्थं वज्रमा ददे । स्कन्धान् अमुष्य शातयन् वृत्रस्येव शचीपतिः
Whenever I eat, I gain strength; thus I take up the thunderbolt, shattering his shoulders as the Lord of Power did to Vritra.
यत्पिबामि सं पिबामि समुद्र इव संपिबः । प्राणान् अमुष्य संपाय सं पिबामो अमुं वयम्
Whatever I drink, I drink up completely, as the ocean drinks up; draw out his life-breaths, let us drink him up together.
यद्गिरामि सं गिरामि समुद्र इव संगिरः । प्राणान् अमुष्य संगीर्य सं गिरामो अमुं वयम्
Whatever I speak, I speak forth completely, as the ocean speaks forth; having spoken forth his life-breaths, let us speak him forth together.
देवी देव्यामधि जाता पृथिव्यामस्योषधे । तां त्वा नितत्नि केशेभ्यो दृंहणाय खनामसि
O divine plant, born from the divine on earth, O herb, I dig you up from the hair for firmness.
दृंह प्रत्नान् जनयाजातान् जातान् उ वर्षीयसस्कृधि
Make firm the ancient ones, produce those already born, and make those born even more vigorous.
यस्ते केशोऽवपद्यते समूलो यश्च वृश्चते । इदं तं विश्वभेषज्याभि षिञ्चामि वीरुधा
For the hair of yours that falls out, root and all, or is plucked, with this universal remedy I sprinkle it with herbs.
यां जमदग्निरखनद्दुहित्रे केशवर्धनीम् । तां वीतहव्य आभरदसितस्य गृहेभ्यः
The plant which Jamadagni dug up for his daughter to promote hair growth, that Vītahavya brought from the house of Asita.
