अनृणा अस्मिन्न् अनृणाः परस्मिन् तृतीये लोके अनृणाः स्याम । ये देवयानाः पितृयाणश्च लोकाः सर्वान् पथो अनृणा आ क्षियेम
Free from debt here, free from debt elsewhere, free from debt in the third world may we be; may we dwell, free from debt, in all the paths of the worlds of the gods and ancestors.
यद्धस्ताभ्यां चकृम किल्बिषाण्यक्षाणां गत्नुमुपलिप्समानाः । उग्रंपश्ये उग्रजितौ तदद्याप्सरसावनु दत्तामृणं नः
Whatever sins we have committed with our hands, seeking to win the course of dice—may the fierce Apsaras and Ugrajita today release us from debt.
उग्रंपश्ये राष्ट्रभृत्किल्बिषाणि यदक्षवृत्तमनु दत्तं न एतत्। ऋणान् नो न ऋणमेर्त्समानो यमस्य लोके अधिरज्जुरायत्
The fierce Apsaras, the ruler of the realm, whatever gambling sins have been committed, let them release us from that; let not the debt, nor the debtor, remain in Yama's world.
यस्मा ऋणं यस्य जायामुपैमि यं याचमानो अभ्यैमि देवाः । ते वाचं वादिषुर्मोत्तरां मद्देवपत्नी अप्सरसावधीतम्
From whom I have taken a loan, whose wife I approach, whom I come to as a supplicant—may the gods make their words favorable, and may the Apsaras, wives of the gods, approve.
6.119 यददीव्यन्न् ऋणमहं कृणोम्यदास्यन्न् अग्ने उत संगृणामि । वैश्वानरो नो अधिपा वसिष्ठ उदिन् नयाति सुकृतस्य लोकम्
Whatever debt I incur by gambling or by eating, O Agni, I acknowledge; may Vaiśvānara, our lord, lead us forth to the world of the righteous.
वैश्वानराय प्रति वेदयामि यदि ऋणं संगरो देवतासु । स एतान् पाशान् विचृतं वेद सर्वान् अथ पक्वेन सह सं भवेम
To Vaiśvānara I declare: if there is any debt accumulated among the gods, he knows all the bonds that are loosened; then may we be united with the cooked offering.
वैश्वानरः पविता मा पुनातु यत्संगरमभिधावाम्याशाम् । अनाजानन् मनसा याचमानो यत्तत्रैनो अप तत्सुवामि
May Vaiśvānara, the purifier, cleanse me as I approach the conflict with hope; whatever I have done there unknowingly, asking with my mind, may I expiate that offense.
यदन्तरिक्षं पृथिवीमुत द्यां यन् मातरं पितरं वा जिहिंसिम । अयं तस्माद्गार्हपत्यो नो अग्निरुदिन् नयाति सुकृतस्य लोकम्
Whatever harm we have done to the midspace, to the earth, or to the sky, or to mother or father, may this Gārhapatya fire lead us away from that, guiding us to the world of the righteous.
भूमिर्मातादितिर्नो जनित्रं भ्रातान्तरिक्षमभिशस्त्या नः । द्यौर्नः पिता पित्र्याच्छं भवाति जामिमृत्वा माव पत्सि लोकात्
Earth is our mother, Aditi our birth-giver, the midspace our brother—let no curse befall us; heaven is our father—may the ancestral portion be auspicious; having conquered death, may we not fall from the world.
यत्रा सुहार्दः सुकृतो मदन्ति विहाय रोगं तन्वः स्वायाः । अश्लोना अङ्गैरह्रुताः स्वर्गे तत्र पश्येम पितरौ च पुत्रान्
Where friends of good heart and righteous deeds rejoice, having cast off disease from their own bodies, uninjured in their limbs, unharmed, in that heaven may we see both parents and children.
विषाणा पाशान् वि ष्याध्यस्मद्य उत्तमा अधमा वारुणा ये । दुष्वप्न्यं दुरितं नि ष्वास्मदथ गछेम सुकृतस्य लोकम्
May Varuṇa’s fetters, upper and lower, be loosed from us; drive away evil dreams and misfortune from us, and then may we reach the world of the righteous.
यद्दारुणि बध्यसे यच्च रज्ज्वां यद्भूम्यां बध्यसे यच्च वाचा । अयं तस्माद्गार्हपत्यो नो अग्निरुदिन् नयाति सुकृतस्य लोकम्
Whatever binds you to wood, or with a rope, whatever binds you to the earth, or with words—may this Gārhapatya fire lead us away from that, guiding us to the world of the righteous.
उदगातां भगवती विचृतौ नाम तारके । प्रेहामृतस्य यच्छतां प्रैतु बद्धकमोचनम्
May the blessed one rise up in the assembly, bearing the name of the deliverer; let the giver of immortality send forth the release from bondage.
वि जिहीष्व लोकं कृणु बन्धान् मुञ्चासि बद्धकम् । योन्या इव प्रच्युतो गर्भः पथः सर्वामनु क्षिय
Break open, make a path, release the bonds, free the bound one; as an embryo slips from the womb, so may you pass along all the paths.
एतं भागं परि ददामि विद्वान् विश्वकर्मन् प्रथमजा ऋतस्य । अस्माभिर्दत्तं जरसः परस्तादछिन्नं तन्तुमनु सं तरेम
This share I dedicate, O wise Viśvakarman, first-born of truth; what we have given, beyond old age, may we cross over the unbroken thread.
ततं तन्तुमन्वेके तरन्ति येषां दत्तं पित्र्यमायनेन । अबन्ध्वेके ददतः प्रयच्छन्तो दातुं चेच्छिक्षान्त्स स्वर्ग एव
Some cross over the stretched thread, those to whom the ancestral gift has been given; others, unbound, give and bestow—whoever desires to give, may he attain heaven.
अन्वारभेथामनुसंरभेथामेतं लोकं श्रद्दधानाः सचन्ते । यद्वां पक्वं परिविष्टमग्नौ तस्य गुप्तये दम्पती सं श्रयेथाम्
Let them take up, let them strive after, let the faithful join with this world; whatever of yours is cooked and offered in the fire, for its protection may the couple take refuge together.
यज्ञं यन्तं मनसा बृहन्तमन्वारोहामि तपसा सयोनिः । उपहूता अग्ने जरसः परस्तात्तृतीये नाके सधमादं मदेम
With austerity I ascend to the great sacrifice, with mind united; O Agni, called forth, beyond old age, may we rejoice in the third heaven at the shared feast.
शुद्धाः पूता योषितो यज्ञिया इमा ब्रह्मणां हस्तेषु प्रपृथक्सादयामि । यत्काम इदमभिषिञ्चामि वोऽहमिन्द्रो मरुत्वान्त्स ददातु तन् मे
Pure, purified, worthy women—these I seat separately in the hands of the priests; as I anoint you with this for your desire, may Indra with the Maruts grant that to me.
एतं सधस्थाः परि वो ददामि यं शेवधिमावहाज्जातवेदः । अन्वागन्ता यजमानः स्वस्ति तं स्म जानीत परमे व्योमन्
This seat I give to you, O assembled ones, which Jātavedas has brought as a treasure; may the sacrificer follow with well-being—know him in the highest heaven.
जानीत स्मैनं परमे व्योमन् देवाः सधस्था विद लोकमत्र । अन्वागन्ता यजमानः स्वस्तीष्टापूर्तं स्म कृणुताविरस्मै
Know him, O gods assembled in the highest heaven, as one who knows the world here; may the sacrificer follow with well-being—may his rites and gifts be fulfilled for him.
देवाः पितरः पितरो देवाः । यो अस्मि सो अस्मि
The gods are ancestors, the ancestors are gods; who I am, that I am.
स पचामि स ददामि । स यजे स दत्तान् मा यूषम्
I cook, I give; I sacrifice, I give what is given—do not reject me.
नाके राजन् प्रति तिष्ठ तत्रैतत्प्रति तिष्ठतु । विद्धि पूर्तस्य नो राजन्त्स देव सुमना भव
O king, stand firm in heaven, let this stand firm there; know our fulfillment, O king, and as a god, be gracious to us.
दिवो नु मां बृहतो अन्तरिक्षादपां स्तोको अभ्यपप्तद्रसेन । समिन्द्रियेन पयसाहमग्ने छन्दोभिर्यज्ञैः सुकृतां कृतेन
From the great sky, from the midspace, a small drop of water has fallen upon me. With full strength and essence, O Agni, with sacred chants, with sacrifices, with the deeds of the righteous, I am sustained.
यदि वृक्षादभ्यपप्तत्फलं तद्यद्यन्तरिक्षात्स उ वायुरेव । यत्रास्पृक्षत्तन्वो यच्च वासस आपो नुदन्तु निर्ऋतिं पराचैः
If it has fallen from a tree, that is its fruit; if from the midspace, that is the wind itself. Wherever it has touched the body or the garment, may the waters drive away misfortune far from us.
अभ्यञ्जनं सुरभि सा समृद्धिर्हिरण्यं वर्चस्तदु पूत्रिममेव । सर्वा पवित्रा वितताध्यस्मत्तन् मा तारीन् निर्ऋतिर्मो अरातिः
Anointment, fragrance, prosperity, gold, and brilliance—let all these be mine, and a worthy son as well. Let all purifying things be spread over me; may misfortune, distress, and enmity not reach me.
वनस्पते वीड्वङ्गो हि भूया अस्मत्सखा प्रतरणः सुवीरः । गोभिः संनद्धो असि वीडयस्वास्थाता ते जयतु जेत्वानि
O tree, may you become strong of limb, our friend, a crossing, heroic. Bound with cows, be strengthened; may you stand firm, and may your victories be victorious.
दिवस्पृथिव्याः पर्योज उद्भृतं वनस्पतिभ्यः पर्याभृतं सहः । अपामोज्मानं परि गोभिरावृतमिन्द्रस्य वज्रं हविषा रथं यज
From heaven and earth, raised up, from the trees, gathered together with strength; covered with the vigor of waters, wrapped with cows—offer Indra's thunderbolt, the chariot, with oblation.
इन्द्रस्यौजो मरुतामनीकं मित्रस्य गर्भो वरुणस्य नाभिः । स इमां नो हव्यदातिं जुषाणो देव रथ प्रति हव्या गृभाय
The strength of Indra, the host of the Maruts, the embryo of Mitra, the navel of Varuna—may he, accepting this our oblation, O god, bring the chariot here and grasp the offerings.
