O god of resounding might, lord of a thousand prosperities, you are the ruler; grant us a share of that, bestow that upon us, and may we be devoted to you.
He flies through the midspace, proclaiming all beings; to you, O divine one, for that great power, we offer this oblation.
Those three dark ones, stationed in the sky like gods— I call upon all of them for aid, for our unharmed protection.
Your birth is in the waters, your seat is in the sky, your greatness is within the ocean, and upon the earth; to you, O divine one, for that great power, we offer this oblation.
You are the restrainer, you hold back with your hands, you drive away the demons; taking hold of offspring and wealth, the restraining hand has arisen.
O restraining hand, hold firm the womb for the bearing of offspring; place the son within the boundary, and bring him forth to us again and again.
That restraining hand which Aditi bore, desiring a son— Tvaṣṭṛ fastened it upon her, as one would bind a son to be born.
Come, I accept the name of the one who has come, who approaches; I seek the favor of Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, of Vāsava, the wielder of a hundred powers.
By that path by which Sāvitrī led the Sun, and the Aśvins led the way— by that, Bhaga spoke to me: 'Carry off a wife.'
That goad of yours, O Indra, bestower of wealth, great and golden— by that, may a wife be obtained; grant her to me, O lord of strength.
Let the disease fall away, cast off like a bird from its nest; may the Sun bring healing, may the Moon draw out your affliction.
One is pale, one is dark, one is red, two are roan; I call upon the name of all these, O destroyers of men, depart!
The woman in labor, the one afflicted, will cast off the disease; the one with a swollen throat will cast it off, and the one with a goiter will be healed.
Accept this offering of mine, with mind intent, with svāhā; with mind intent I make this oblation.
For whom there is a seat in terror, I offer this for the release of those bound; people address you as Earth, but I know you all around as Nirṛti.
Become possessed of oblation among beings; this is your share among us— release these here from sin, svāhā.
Thus, O Nirṛti, be free from sin for us; break apart the iron bonds; Yama gives you back to me again— to that Yama, to Death, be homage.
O iron one, O wooden one, O one pierced, here named among deaths by the thousand— with Yama and the ancestors, may you ascend to the highest heaven.
This Varana tree, the divine Lord of the forest, wards off; whatever illness has entered into this one, the gods have driven it away.
By the command of Indra, of Mitra, and of Varuna, and by the word of all the gods, we ward off illness from you.
As the waters held back Vritra, restraining all his might, so with Agni, with Vaisvanara, I ward off illness from you.
The mighty Indra is the bull of heaven, the bull of earth is this one; be you the single bull of all that exists.
The ocean is lord of flowing streams, Agni is master of earth; the moon is lord of the stars—be you the single bull among them.
You are the sovereign of the gods, the leader of men; you have a share among the gods—be you the single bull.
I have brought you here from within; stand firm, unmoving; may all the people desire you, may your rule not fall away.
Remain here, do not depart, stand firm like a mountain; like Indra, stand steady here, uphold your rule here.
Indra upheld this, the firm, with firm offering; to him Soma declared, and so did Brahmanaspati.
Heaven is firm, earth is firm, all this world is firm; these mountains are firm, the king of the people is firm.
Firm is your king Varuna, firm is the god Brihaspati; may Indra and Agni together uphold your rule firmly.
Firm, unshaken one, strike down your enemies, subdue those hostile to you; may all directions be united in purpose, may your assembly here be established firmly.
