छन्दांसि यज्ञे मरुतः स्वाहा मातेव पुत्रं पिपृतेह युक्ताः
May the meters and the Maruts unite you in the ritual with the offering, yoked here as a mother cherishes her son.
एयमगन् बर्हिषा प्रोक्षणीभिर्यज्ञं तन्वानादितिः स्वाहा
Aditi, performing the sacrifice with sprinklings upon the sacred grass, unites you with the offering.
विष्णुर्युनक्तु बहुधा तपांस्यस्मिन् यज्ञे सुयुजः स्वाहा
May Viṣṇu unite you with manifold forms of heat in this sacrifice, with good harnessing, with the offering.
त्वष्टा युनक्तु बहुधा नु रूपा अस्मिन् यज्ञे युनक्तु सुयुजः स्वाहा
May Tvaṣṭṛ unite you with manifold forms in this sacrifice; may he unite you with good harnessing, with the offering.
भगो युनक्त्वाशिषो न्वस्मा अस्मिन् यज्ञे प्रविद्वान् युनक्तु सुयुजः स्वाहा
May Bhaga unite you with blessings here; in this sacrifice, well-knowing, may he unite you with good harnessing, with the offering.
सोमो युनक्तु बहुधा पयांस्यस्मिन् यज्ञे सुयुजः स्वाहा
May Soma unite you with manifold nourishment in this sacrifice, with good harnessing, with the offering.
इन्द्रो युनक्तु बहुधा पयांस्यस्मिन् यज्ञे सुयुजः स्वाहा
May Indra unite you with manifold nourishment in this sacrifice, with good harnessing, with the offering.
अश्विना ब्रह्मणा यातमर्वाञ्चौ वषट्कारेण यज्ञं वर्धयन्तौ । बृहस्पते ब्रह्मणा याह्यर्वाङ्यज्ञो अयं स्वरिदं यजमानाय स्वाहा
O Aśvins, come with the Brahman, favorable, increasing the sacrifice with the vaṣaṭ-call; O Bṛhaspati, come with the Brahman, favorable, this sacrifice is for the sun-realm, for the sacrificer, with the offering.
ऊर्ध्वा अस्य समिधो भवन्त्यूर्ध्वा शुक्रा शोचीष्यग्नेः । द्युमत्तमा सुप्रतीकः ससूनुस्तनूनपादसुरो भूरिपाणिः
His kindling sticks stand upright, upright are the bright flames of Agni; most radiant, of beautiful aspect, with offspring, the god who protects the body, with many hands.
देवो देवेषु देवः पथो अनक्ति मध्वा घृतेन
The god among gods, the divine one, prepares the paths with honey and clarified butter.
मध्वा यज्ञं नक्षति प्रैणानो नराशंसो अग्निः सुकृद्देवः सविता विश्ववारः
With honey he marks the sacrifice, the leader, the wish-granting Agni, the well-doer, Savitṛ, all-encompassing.
अच्छायमेति शवसा घृता चिदीडानो वह्निर्नमसा
He comes here with might, even with clarified butter, the desired fire, with reverence.
अग्निः स्रुचो अध्वरेषु प्रयक्षु स यक्षदस्य महिमानमग्नेः
Agni, the ladles in the sacrifices, are visible; he will worship, this is the greatness of Agni.
तरी मन्द्रासु प्रयक्षु वसवश्चातिष्ठन् वसुधातरश्च
The swift ones, delightful, are visible among the Vasus; they stand, and the earth-givers as well.
द्वारो देवीरन्वस्य विश्वे व्रतं रक्षन्ति विश्वहा
The divine doors, all the gods, uphold the sacred order of the householder.
उरुव्यचसाग्नेर्धाम्ना पत्यमाने । आ सुष्वयन्ती यजते उपाके उषासानक्तेमं यज्ञमवतामध्वरं नः
With the wide-ranging radiance of Agni, as she is being praised, let the awakening dawns, together with the priests, protect this sacrifice of ours, just as guardians protect a ritual.
दैवा होतार ऊर्ध्वमध्वरं नोऽग्नेर्जिह्वयाभि गृनत गृनता नः स्विष्टये । तिस्रो देवीर्बर्हिरेदं सदन्तामिडा सरस्वती मही भारती गृणाना
May the divine priests raise our sacrifice upward; with Agni’s tongue, praise us for our well-being. Let the three goddesses—Idā, Sarasvatī, and mighty Bhāratī—sit on this sacred grass, being praised.
तन् नस्तुरीपमद्भुतं पुरुक्षु । देव त्वष्टा रायस्पोषं वि ष्य नाभिमस्य
May that wondrous and abundant blessing be ours; may god Tvaṣṭṛ distribute the wealth and prosperity of this gathering.
वनस्पतेऽव सृजा रराणः । त्मना देवेभ्यो अग्निर्हव्यं शमिता स्वदयतु
O Lord of the Forest, release what you hold; by your own power, let Agni, appeased, carry the offering to the gods.
अग्ने स्वाहा कृणुहि जातवेदः । इन्द्राय यज्ञं विश्वे देवा हविरिदं जुषन्ताम्
Agni, Jātavedas, perform with svāhā; may Indra and all the gods accept this oblation of the sacrifice.
नव प्राणान् नवभिः सं मिमीते दीर्घायुत्वाय शतशारदाय । हरिते त्रीणि रजते त्रीण्ययसि त्रीणि तपसाविष्टितानि
He measures out nine vital breaths with nine, for long life and a hundred autumns; three are green, three are silver, three are iron, three are established by austerity.
अग्निः सूर्यश्चन्द्रमा भूमिरापो द्यौरन्तरिक्षं प्रदिशो दिशश्च । आर्तवा ऋतुभिः संविदाना अनेन मा त्रिवृता पारयन्तु
Agni, Sūrya, Candra, Earth, Waters, Sky, Atmosphere, the intermediate directions and the quarters; the seasons, united with their periods—may they carry me across with this triple measure.
त्रयः पोषास्त्रिवृति श्रयन्तामनक्तु पूषा पयसा घृतेन । अन्नस्य भूमा पुरुषस्य भूमा भूमा पशूनां त इह श्रयन्ताम्
May three forms of nourishment, in triple measure, resort here; may Pūṣan bring milk and ghee. The abundance of food, the abundance of man, the abundance of cattle—may these abide here.
इममादित्या वसुना समुक्षतेममग्ने वर्धय ववृधानः । इममिन्द्र सं सृज वीर्येणास्मिन् त्रिवृच्छ्रयतां पोषयिष्णु
May the Ādityas anoint this one with wealth; Agni, as you grow, make him grow. Indra, send him forth with strength; let the triple measure of nourishment settle in him.
भूमिष्ट्वा पातु हरितेन विश्वभृदग्निः पिपर्त्वयसा सजोषाः । वीरुद्भिष्टे अर्जुनं संविदानं दक्षं दधातु सुमनस्यमानम्
May the green one of the earth protect you; may Agni, bearer of all, support you with iron together. Let the herbs, united with the silver, grant you skill and a cheerful mind.
त्रेधा जातं जन्मनेदं हिरण्यमग्नेरेकं प्रियतमं बभूव सोमस्यैकं हिंसितस्य परापतत्। अपामेकं वेधसां रेत आहुस्तत्ते हिरण्यं त्रिवृदस्त्वायुषे
This gold, born in three ways, is the offspring; one part became Agni’s dearest, one part, when pressed, fell to Soma, and one part, they say, is the seed of the Waters—this triple gold is for your life.
त्र्यायुषं जमदग्नेः कश्यपस्य त्र्यायुषम् । त्रेधामृतस्य चक्षणं त्रीण्यायूंषि तेऽकरम्
The triple lifespan of Jamadagni, the triple lifespan of Kaśyapa; the threefold vision of immortality, I have made three lifespans for you.
त्रयः सुपर्णास्त्रिवृता यदायन्न् एकाक्षरमभिसंभूय शक्राः । प्रत्यौहन् मृत्युममृतेन साकमन्तर्दधाना दुरितानि विश्वा
Three shining ones, in triple form, when they came together as one syllable, became mighty; they drove away death with immortality, and, concealing themselves, removed all evils.
दिवस्त्वा पातु हरितं मध्यात्त्वा पात्वर्जुनम् । भूम्या अयस्मयं पातु प्रागाद्देवपुरा अयम्
May the green one of the sky protect you from above, may the silver one protect you from the middle, may the iron one of the earth protect you from below; this is the ancient protection of the gods.
इमास्तिस्रो देवपुरास्तास्त्वा रक्षन्तु सर्वतः । तास्त्वं बिभ्रद्वर्चस्व्युत्तरो द्विषतां भव
May these three ancient protections of the gods guard you on all sides; bearing these, shining, may you stand superior to your foes.
