First, O drum, you speak out on the earth's surface, shining forth; announce the enemy's army, O radiant one, speak gloriously, O drum, with true words.
Let the sound be between these two in the sky, let the echoes go separately to victory; roar aloud, O thunderous one, making fame, for the friendship of the trumpet, for the glory of heaven.
Made by skill, it utters speech; arouse the weapons of the strong; call upon Indra for the strong, summon friends, drive away the unfriendly.
Resounding together, proclaiming, with bold army, making known, announcing in many ways, the herald of the village; seeking the better, knowing the paths, bring forth fame from many, O two-kings.
You are the possessor of auspicious insight, victorious in wealth, mighty in strength, conqueror in battle, firm in sacred knowledge. Like the mountain presses out the Soma drops with the stone, so, O drum, resound with knowledge upon the battlefield.
Destroyer of enemies, breaker of hostile might, seeker of cattle, enduring, rising up—like speech bringing forth a mantra, bring forth utterance; for victory in battle, raise your voice.
Unshaken, unshakable, full of energy, swift to go, conqueror of foes, leader in battle, ready for war—protected by Indra, skilled in assemblies, shining in heart, go forth to the destruction of enemies, to victory.
O drum, we drive away heartache, confusion, and enmity among enemies; we lay down hatred, trembling, and fear among foes—strike them down, O drum.
Let the enemies, trembling in mind, in sight, and in heart, flee in fear; let them run when the clarified butter is poured in sacrifice.
Gathered from the forest, with red cows, belonging to all clans—let the drum, struck with clarified butter, drive terror into the enemies.
Just as wild animals scatter from a man in the forest, so, O drum, cry out against the enemies, drive them away, confound their minds.
Just as sheep flee from a wolf, trembling greatly, so, O drum, cry out against the enemies, drive them away, confound their minds.
Just as birds scatter from a hawk, or as they flee at the lion’s roar in broad daylight, so, O drum, cry out against the enemies, drive them away, confound their minds.
Let the drum and the skin of the deer drive away the enemies; all the gods are terrified who stand on the side of battle.
By those sounds of feet and shadows with which Indra delights, let our enemies be terrified—those who come in hostile ranks.
Let the twang of the bowstring and the drums resound in all directions; let the armies of the enemies, their ranks, be defeated and scattered.
O Sun, grant sight; let your rays pursue them; let their companions be scattered when their strength in arms is gone.
You fierce Maruts, children of Prisni, together with Indra, strike down the enemies; Soma the king, Varuna the king, Mahadeva, and Death—these are Indra.
These divine armies, banners of the Sun, conscious and aware—may they conquer our enemies. Svaha!
May Agni drive away fever from here, Soma, the stone, and Varuna of pure skill; may the altar, the sacred grass, and the shining kindling remove all hatred far away.
This one who makes all things green, burning and consuming like Agni—let the fever be powerless, let it be low, let it go downward or depart elsewhere.
He who is harsh, of harsh origin, destructive like a red one—let the fever, running everywhere, be driven away, cast down below.
I send downward, with reverence, to the craftsman; let the fist of Śakambhara return again to the great bulls.
His abode is among the Mūjavas, his abode is among the great bulls; as long as Takman is born, so long you dwell among the Balhikas.
Takman, snake, poison, lameness, drive away the multitude; seek the slave woman who is afflicted, deliver her with the thunderbolt.
Takman, go to the Mūjavas, or beyond to the Balhikas; seek the Śūdra woman who is swollen, shake out Takman from her.
The great bulls of the Mūjavas are kin, having gone away; we speak these words to Takman, or to other fields.
You do not delight in another field, being obedient, you do not show mercy to us; Takman has become desired, he will go to the Balhikas.
If you are cold, or trembling, together with cough and shivering; your terrible causes, Takman, with those, surround us.
Do not make these companions, nor fever, nor cough, nor agitation; do not again bring that Takman near with your forces.
