असितं ते प्रलयनमास्थानमसितं तव । असिक्नी अस्योषधे निरितो नाशया पृषत्
Your abode is blackness, your foundation is blackness; O black herb, destroy the leprosy and the grayness.
अस्थिजस्य किलासस्य तनूजस्य च यत्त्वचि । दूष्या कृतस्य ब्रह्मणा लक्ष्म श्वेतमनीनशम्
Whatever is leprous of the bone, or of the flesh, or on the skin, the mark made by the Brahman, let the white blemish be removed.
सुपर्णो जातः प्रथमस्तस्य त्वं पित्तमासिथ । तदासुरी युधा जिता रूपं चक्रे वनस्पतीन्
The eagle was born first; you became its bile; then the demoness, conquered in battle, shaped the forms of the trees.
आसुरी चक्रे प्रथमेदं किलासभेषजमिदं किलासनाशनम् । अनीनशत्किलासं सरूपामकरत्त्वचम्
The demoness first made this remedy for leprosy, this destroyer of leprosy; she made the skin uniform, free from leprosy.
सरूपा नाम ते माता सरूपो नाम ते पिता । सरूपकृत्त्वमोषधे सा सरूपमिदं कृधि
Your mother is called Uniform, your father is called Uniform; O herb, you are made uniform, so make this uniform.
श्यामा सरूपंकरणी पृथिव्या अध्युद्भृता । इदमू षु प्र साधय पुना रूपाणि कल्पय
The dark one, maker of uniformity, raised from the earth; let her accomplish this, restore the forms anew.
यदग्निरापो अदहत्प्रविश्य यत्राकृण्वन् धर्मधृतो नमांसि । तत्र त आहुः परमं जनित्रं स नः संविद्वान् परि वृङ्ग्धि तक्मन्
Where fire and water entered and burned, where the bearers of law made their obeisance, there they say is the highest origin; may the wise one remove fever from us.
यद्यर्चिर्यदि वासि शोचिः शकल्येषि यदि वा ते जनित्रम् । ह्रूडुर्नामासि हरितस्य देव स नः संविद्वान् परि वृङ्ग्धि तक्मन्
Whether you are flame or burning, whether you are spark or your origin, you are called Hrūḍu, god of the green; may the wise one remove fever from us.
यदि शोको यदि वाभिशोको यदि वा राज्ञो वरुणस्यासि पुत्रः । ह्रूडुर्नामासि हरितस्य देव स नः संविद्वान् परि वृङ्ग्धि तक्मन्
Whether you are Sorrow, or the absence of Sorrow, or the son of King Varuṇa— you are called Hrūḍu, the god of the green one— knowing us, remove the fever from us.
नमः शीताय तक्मने नमो रूराय शोचिषे कृणोमि । यो अन्येद्युरुभयद्युरभ्येति तृतीयकाय नमो अस्तु तक्मने
Homage to the cold fever, homage to the fierce, burning one; I offer reverence. To the fever that comes on alternate days, or every day, or every third day— let there be homage to that fever.
आरेऽसावस्मदस्तु हेतिर्देवासो असत्। आरे अश्मा यमस्यथ
May that weapon be far from us, O gods, let it not exist; may the stone of Yama be far away.
सखासावस्मभ्यमस्तु रातिः सखेन्द्रो भगः । सविता चित्रराधाः
May generosity be a friend to us, may Indra and Bhaga be our friends; may Savitṛ, the giver of splendid gifts, be our friend.
यूयं नः प्रवतो नपान् मरुतः सूर्यत्वचसः । शर्म यच्छथ सप्रथाः
You Maruts, sons of the shining one, grant us broad protection as you move forward.
सुषूदत मृडत मृडया नस्तनूभ्यो । मयस्तोकेभ्यस्कृधि
Be gracious, show us mercy, show mercy to our bodies; bring joy to our children.
अमूः पारे पृदाक्वस्त्रिषप्ता निर्जरायवः । तासां जरायुभिर्वयमक्ष्यावपि व्ययामस्यघायोः परिपन्थिनः
Those three times seven, on the far shore, are without old age; with their vitality, may we cross over the destroyers and the obstacles of decay.
विषूच्येतु कृन्तती पिनाकमिव बिभ्रती । विष्वक्पुनर्भुवा मनोऽसमृद्धा अघायवः
Cutting through, holding the bow like a string, turning in every direction, the unsuccessful, the destroyers, return again.
न बहवः समशकन् नार्भका अभि दाधृषुः । वेणोरद्गा इवाभितोऽसमृद्धा अघायवः
Not many could withstand, nor could the children endure; like reeds scattered all around, the unsuccessful, the destroyers.
प्रेतं पादौ प्र स्फुरतं वहतं पृणतो गृहान् । इन्द्रान्येतु प्रथमाजीतामुषिता पुरः
Go forth, move your feet, carry away, fill the houses; let Indra and the first-conquered, the dwellers in the city, come.
उप प्रागाद्देवो अग्नी रक्षोहामीवचातनः । दहन्न् अप द्वयाविनो यातुधानान् किमीदिनः
The god Agni has advanced, driving away the demon and the evil-doer; burning up the double-tongued, the sorcerers, and the malicious.
प्रति दह यातुधानान् प्रति देव किमीदिनः । प्रतीचीः कृष्णवर्तने सं दह यातुधान्यः
Burn up the sorcerers, burn up the malicious ones, O god; burn up all the sorceresses with black streaks.
या शशाप शपनेन याघं मूरमादधे । या रसस्य हरणाय जातमारेभे तोकमत्तु सा
She who cursed with a curse, who brought harm or madness, who was born to steal the sap— let her eat her own offspring.
पुत्रमत्तु यातुधानीः स्वसारमुत नप्त्यम् । अधा मिथो विकेश्यो वि घ्नतां यातुधान्यो वि तृह्यन्तामराय्यः
Let the sorceress eat her own son, her sister, and her niece; then let the wild-haired ones destroy each other, let the sorceresses perish, let the enemies waste away.
अभीवर्तेन मणिना येनेन्द्रो अभिवावृधे । तेनास्मान् ब्रह्मणस्पतेऽभि राष्ट्राय वर्धय
With the victorious amulet by which Indra grew strong, with that, O Brahmaṇaspati, make us grow for sovereignty.
अभिवृत्य सपत्नान् अभि या नो अरातयः । अभि पृतन्यन्तं तिष्ठाभि यो नो दुरस्यति
Having overcome our rivals, and those who are our enemies, stand firm against those who contend with us, against whoever seeks to harm us.
अभि त्वा देवः सविताभि षोमो अवीवृधत्। अभि त्वा विश्वा भूतान्यभीवर्तो यथाससि
The god Savitṛ has strengthened you, Soma has strengthened you; all beings have strengthened you, as you are the victorious one.
अभीवर्तो अभिभवः सपत्नक्षयणो मणिः । राष्ट्राय मह्यं बध्यतां सपत्नेभ्यः पराभुवे
Let the victorious, overpowering, rival-destroying amulet be bound for sovereignty for me, for the defeat of my rivals.
उदसौ सूर्यो अगादुदिदं मामकं वचः । यथाहं शत्रुहोऽसान्यसपत्नः सपत्नहा
The sun has risen, and my utterance has emerged; may I become an enemy-slayer, without rivals, destroyer of adversaries.
सपत्नक्षयणो वृषाभिरष्ट्रो विषासहिः । यथाहमेषां वीराणां विराजानि जनस्य च
May I be a bull, a ruler, one who conquers poison, who brings destruction to rivals; may I shine among these heroes and among the people.
विश्वे देवा वसवो रक्षतेममुतादित्या जागृत यूयमस्मिन् । मेमं सनाभिरुत वान्यनाभिर्मेमं प्रापत्पौरुषेयो वधो यः
May all the gods, Vasus, protect this one; may the Ādityas awaken for him. May neither those of the same lineage nor others bring upon him the death meant for men.
ये वो देवाः पितरो ये च पुत्राः सचेतसो मे शृणुतेदमुक्तम् । सर्वेभ्यो वः परि ददाम्येतं स्वस्त्येनं जरसे वहाथ
O gods, ancestors, and sons, may you who are conscious hear this spoken word of mine. To all of you I offer this for well-being; carry him safely to old age.
