O radiant Sun, your fame shines immeasurably; your greatness is known among the gods. As priest among the immortals, you pervade all with your undeceivable, resplendent light. Upwards rise the sweet, intoxicating songs—hymns offered for the ever-victorious, the wealthy, the inexhaustible one. Like eager chariots racing toward victory, these hymns surge forward. Just as the Kaṇvas and the Bhṛgus, like the Sun himself, shine forth in their praises, so too do the devoted glorify Indra with their hymns, their hearts sounding out in joy. Indra’s portion grows, as wealth increases for one who seeks it, and those protected by Indra are untouched by harm. Even the adversary of such a devotee places skill in the one who offers Soma. Place, then, the unbroken, well-composed, and beautiful hymn among the worshipers, for with Indra’s presence, even past obstacles are overcome. Indra, you are truly heroic and steadfast, a champion with a generous mind. Your bounty, O giver of much, stands above all others; even misfortunes, O Indra, are transformed when you are near. Do not weary like a priest, O Lord of Strength; take delight in the pressed Soma, rich with cattle. The speech of your devotee becomes abundant and great, rich in cows, like a ripe branch heavy with fruit for the worshiper. Your powers and aids, O Indra, are ever at hand for the helper, coming swiftly to the one who worships you. The hymn and song of your devotee are desirable, O Indra, as you drink the Soma. We praise your exhilaration, mighty Indra, victorious in battles, creator of worlds, armed with stone, shining in beauty. By your discernment, you revealed the lights for Ayu and Manu, shining joyfully upon the sacrificial grass. Today, as in days of old, the singers praise you, as do the wives of the mighty and the victorious waters, day after day. Let us sing forth to Indra, the much-invoked and much-praised, summoning him with strong words. He, whose vast shelter and strength upholds the heavens and earth, who by his bull-like power sustains the mountains, the rivers, and the shining waters. You alone, Indra, reign supreme, slaying foes for victory and the attainment of fame. We call upon you, O unprecedented one, bearing you as a mighty burden; in the contest, we invoke you, O wondrous Indra. We approach you for help, O powerful one, acting boldly; we choose you as our guide and steadfast friend. He who brought us forth in ancient times, Indra our friend, we praise for his aid. The lord with tawny horses, true and delighting in the people, brings cattle and horses in abundance, a hundred for the singers. Let us sing a chant for Indra, the wise, the great, the mighty, the doer of righteousness, discerning and prosperous. Indra, you are all-powerful; you have made the sun shine, you are the maker and god of all, the great one. Radiant with light, you ascend to the luminous heavens; the gods themselves have chosen you as their friend. Again, let us sing forth to Indra, the much-invoked and much-praised, summoning him with strong words. He, whose vast shelter upholds all creation by his mighty power, reigns alone, slaying foes for victory and fame. Now, let us fulfill these worlds—Indra and all the gods. Indra, together with the Adityas, shapes our sacrifice, our bodies, and our offspring. With the Adityas and Maruts, Indra protects our bodies; the gods, having slain the demons and conquered, preserved divinity for themselves. With the goddesses, we have led the sun to shine upon us; they have revealed nourishing food all around. With this god-given prize, may we win, may we rejoice, a hundred strong with good sons. Indra alone bestows wealth upon the mortal worshiper, unconquered and ever-present. When will Indra, like a foot striking the earth, shake the wrongdoer? When will he listen to our words? Indeed, he is present. Whoever, among many, calls upon you during the pressing of Soma—upon him descends your mighty power, O Indra. O Indra, most powerful, who delights in Soma, the exhilaration stirs you—by which you strike down the oppressor; with that, we seek you. By your might, you subdued the ten-armed, the Adhrigu, and the trembling singer of the sun; you encompassed the ocean—with that, we seek you. By your power, you urge the great rivers to flow like chariots, O Indra, so that we may travel the path of immortality; with that, we seek you. May Indra, dear to us, unconcealed and winner of the full prize, be our support—broad as a mountain on every side, lord of the sky. Truly, O true Soma-drinker, you have become both heaven and earth; you are the strength of the one who presses Soma, lord of the sky. You, Indra, are the destroyer of ancient forts, slayer of the Dasyu, greatly generous, lord of the sky. Pour forth now, O officiant, the most exhilarating sweetness of the Soma; for thus is the ever-strong hero, Indra, praised.
