May strength fill my thighs, swiftness run through my legs, and unwavering firmness hold my feet. Let every limb of mine remain whole and unharmed, preserved in its integrity. May my body remain united within itself, and may I attain the fullness of life’s span. O purifier, sit contentedly for me; fill me with abundance, and grant me joy in the heavenly realms. Let me be cherished among the gods and esteemed among kings. May I be dear to all who behold me, whether Shudra or Arya, winning the favor of all. O Brahmanaspati, arise and awaken the gods through sacrifice. Increase for us life, breath, offspring, cattle, fame, and all the good fortune of the worshiper. Agni, I approach you with kindling for the great Jatavedas. May you, O Jatavedas, grant me faith and intelligence. With this kindling and fuel, we nourish you; so may you, in turn, nourish us—with offspring and with wealth. Whatever woods we place upon you, O Agni, may all be auspicious for me; accept them, youngest among the gods. These offerings are yours, Agni; as you are kindled, become the very kindling. Grant us long life, and bestow immortality upon the teacher. The tawny, radiant one—Agni—ascended the sky with his blazing flame. Should any seek to strike at you as you soar to heaven, O Jatavedas, cast them down with your might. The fierce and blazing one rose high, O Sun, illuminating the heavens. Those demons, cunning magicians, who move about marked with iron snares—O Jatavedas, with your force I bind them. You, thousand-rayed, O Vajra, destroy our rivals and protect us from harm. May we see a hundred autumns, may we live a hundred autumns, may we awaken for a hundred autumns, and thrive for a hundred autumns. May we be nourished and prosper for a hundred autumns, may we flourish for a hundred autumns, and may we live even beyond a hundred autumns. With what is unbound and what is bound, I open the way by means of sacred magic. Drawing forth knowledge from both, we perform the rites with understanding and care. Live, be alive; may I complete the full span of life. Live on, let me continue; may my years be fulfilled. Let us live together in harmony; may I reach the fullness of life. Live long, remain alive; may I not fall short of my destined years. Indra, live; Sun, live; gods, live; may I live, may I fulfill the full measure of my days. May the Giver of boons, the Mother of the Veda, whom I praise, inspire the pure among the twice-born. May she grant me life, breath, offspring, cattle, fame, wealth, and the brilliance of sacred knowledge. Bestowing these gifts, may she proceed to the world of Brahman. From the vessel from which we drew forth the Veda, into that same vessel let us place it back. The sacrifice has been accomplished by the power of sacred knowledge—may the gods not take offense at us for this austerity. Indra, we call upon you, the mighty Bull, at the pressing of Soma; protect us, O Lord, with the sweetness of the Soma drink. He in whose dwelling the Maruts, the mighty ones of the sky, abide—he is the one most well-guarded. Whether one eats ox-flesh or cow-flesh, or is wise and marked by Soma, let us all offer praises to Agni. Let the Maruts drink the Soma from the cup, in the Suktubh meter, radiant and according to the season. Let Agni, from the Agnidh’s cup, in the Suktubh meter and with radiance, drink the Soma in its right season. Let Indra, the priest, from the Brahman’s cup, in the Suktubh meter and with radiance, drink the Soma at the proper time. Let the god Dravinoda, from the cup of the cup-bearer, in the Suktubh meter and with radiance, partake of the Soma in its season. Come hither, Indra, with eager mind; drink this Soma, for this sacred grass-seat is prepared for you. Let your two tawny steeds, yoked by prayer, bring you here, Indra; attend to our hymns. With prayer we call you, Indra, drinker of Soma, together with those who offer Soma, when the Soma is pressed. Come to us, O Soma-drinker, to our well-praised offering; drink the sweet Soma, O beautiful-haired one. I pour it for you, let it flow through your limbs; seize the honey with your tongue. Let the sweet, well-filtered, honeyed Soma be pleasing to your body; may Soma bring peace to your heart. This Soma, O wise one, is pressed for you, surrounded as a mother by her children; let it flow forth to you, Indra, the mighty and beneficent.
