May the priests of the gods—those immortal knowers of truth, worthy of worship and sacrifice, revered since the time of Manu—grant us radiant glory today and ever shield us with their blessings. Let it be so, O Mitra and Varuṇa; let it be so, O Agni. May your blessings be ours. May we attain depth and a firm foundation in life. We offer homage to the great heaven, the eternal seat of all beings. Dawn, best of sisters, turns our path toward brightness. Born of noble lineage, she brings the promise of a new day. Through her, may we receive the wealth the gods bestow, rejoicing in strength, endowed with a hundred powers and blessed with good sons. Indra’s mighty arms, powerful as splendid bulls, are able to carry us across all dangers. Harness them at the very first call to action—those arms that once conquered enemies and attained the heavenly world. Swift and fierce as a bull, Indra thunders forth, shaking the peoples, a solitary hero who, with a hundred armies, brings victory. With tumult and unblinking might, with victorious, unyielding force, Indra conquers. Stand together in battle, O men, with this mighty one who holds the arrow in his hand. With those who hold arrows and bear quivers, with the loyal and obedient, Indra leads the host in battle. He is the winner of assembled contests, the drinker of Soma, strong-armed, fierce-bowed, ever standing with those who resist. Wise in strength, steadfast, supremely heroic and enduring, O Indra, stand upon our chariot, rich in cattle, as the victorious subduer of enemies. Rejoice together in this hero, this fierce Indra, O friends; unite with him. He is the victor in the village, victor in cattle, triumphant in the race, his arms like thunderbolts, crushing with his might. Fierce Indra, with a hundred wraths, assaults and takes the enemy enclosures by force. Unyielding and unconquered in battle, destroyer of hosts, may he protect our army in the fight. O Bṛhaspati, circle around us with your chariot, slaying demons and driving away foes. Break our enemies, crush our adversaries, and purify our people. Let Indra be our leader, Bṛhaspati our right hand, sacrifice our vanguard, and Soma our advance. Among the divine hosts that break through and conquer, let the Maruts move in the midst. Let the cry of the gods arise in victory—Indra the mighty, Varuṇa the king, the radiant Ādityas, and the fierce host of the Maruts, the great-minded, the movers of the worlds. May Indra shine upon our banners in battle; may our arrows be victorious. May our heroes be the best; may the gods protect us in our offerings. May this conclusion be auspicious. May Heaven and Earth be gracious to us. May all directions be free from enmity toward us. Truly, we harbor no hatred—may there be safety for us. O Indra, from whatever we fear, make us fearless. O Maghavan, drive away our foes with your aid; scatter the haters, destroy the assailants. We call upon generous Indra for favor; may we gain prosperity among both bipeds and quadrupeds. May no hostile army overpower us. O Indra, destroy the plots of the malicious, both near and far. Indra is our protector, the mighty slayer of Vṛtra. May he guard us as we move—behind us, before us, and in our midst. Lead us, O wise one, to a wide and open space; grant us the radiant, fearless, and auspicious world. O powerful Indra, may we dwell sheltered under your mighty, enduring arms. May the midspace, Heaven, and Earth make us fearless. May there be safety behind, before, above, and below. May we be safe from friend and foe, from kin and from those ahead. May there be safety for us by night and by day; may all regions become our friends. Make us without rivals in front and grant us safety behind. May Savitar protect us on the right, and the Lord of Power on the left. May the Ādityas guard us from the sky, and Agnis from the earth. May Indra and Agni guard us in front, and the Aśvins grant us shelter all around. May Jātavedas, the all-knowing, protect us from across, and may beings form armor for us on every side. May Agni, with the Vasus, guard us in front; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Vāyu guard us with the midspace in this direction; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Soma, with the Rudras, guard us on the right; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Varuṇa, with the Ādityas, guard us in this direction; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Sūrya, with Heaven and Earth, guard us from the west; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May the Waters, rich in herbs, guard us in this direction; in them we step, in them we take refuge, into their fortress we enter. May they protect and watch over us; to them we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Viśvakarman, with the Seven Sages, guard us from the north; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Indra, accompanied by the Maruts, guard us in this direction; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Prajāpati, lord of creatures, with progeny, support, and firmness, guard us from the fixed direction; in him we step, in him we take refuge, into his fortress we enter. May he protect and watch over us; to him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Bṛhaspati, together with all the gods, protect us from above. In that path, in that refuge, we enter that stronghold. May he guard and watch over us. To him we entrust ourselves—svāhā. May Agni, rich in treasures, be sought for you by the Māghāyavas who attack from the east. May Vāyu, lord of the midspace, be sought for you by those who come from this direction. May Soma, with Rudra, be sought for you by the Māghāyavas who attack from the south. May Varuṇa, with the Ādityas, be sought for you by those who come from this direction. May Sūrya, with Heaven and Earth, be sought for you by the Māghāyavas who attack from the west. May the Waters, rich in plants, be sought for you by those who come from this direction. May Viśvakarman, with the Seven Sages, be sought for you by those Māghāyavas who attack from the north. Thus, surrounded by the gods’ protection and blessings in every direction, may we walk securely, victorious and fearless, under their watchful gaze.
