Hear now the invocation and the sacred acts as they unfold, woven with the power of the Atharvan tradition. May all those relentless followers of misfortune, the swift and sharp-tongued harbingers of evil, be carried far away from the one for whom this rite is performed. Let the Kumbhikas, the Dushikas, and the Piyakas—all those who bring harm—be swept away. Whether evil arises in waking dreams or in the visions of sleep, let it be removed. May the bonds of deceit, the schemes of the unwise, and the longings of those beset by poverty never return to this place. O Agni, may the gods themselves bear away these afflictions from him, just as a wolf carries off the crippled, sparing those who are whole and worthy. Now, with this sacred utterance, I strike the adversary with misfortune, with ruin, with destruction, with defeat, with capture, and with darkness. By the fierce and dreadful messengers of the gods, I send him forth from our midst. I place him between the jaws of Vaiśvānara, the consuming fire, so that she may devour him utterly. Let whoever harbors hatred towards us be turned upon himself by his own spirit; and whomsoever we hate, let his own essence turn against him. From the sky, from the earth, and from the atmosphere, let us draw forth that which is free from hostility, so that we may be guided well and see clearly. For the descendant, for the son of that one, I wipe away all evil dreams. Whatever harm has been approached, whatever was done in the evening, whatever occurred in the night before, whether in wakefulness or in sleep, whether by day or by night, whatever I encounter day after day—may I protect him from all this, may I show him mercy. Strike down the adversary, delight in his defeat, and remain ever vigilant, even to his very back. May he not continue to live; may his breath depart from him. Victory is ours! Bursting forth is ours! Death, energy, sacred knowledge, heaven, sacrifice, cattle, progeny, and heroes—all these are ours. Therefore, let us set apart and distribute that one, that descendant, that son of that one, so that he does not escape the bonds of destruction. Victory is ours! Bursting forth is ours! Death, energy, sacred knowledge, heaven, sacrifice, cattle, progeny, and heroes—all these are ours. Thus, let us distribute that one, that descendant, that son of that one, so that he does not escape the bonds of misfortune, nor the bonds of non-prosperity, nor the bonds of defeat. Victory is ours! Bursting forth is ours! Death, energy, sacred knowledge, heaven, sacrifice, cattle, progeny, and heroes—all these are ours. Therefore, let us distribute that one, that descendant, that son of that one, so that he does not escape the bonds of the offspring of the gods, nor the bonds of Brihaspati, nor those of Prajapati, nor those of the sages, nor those of the descendants of the sages. Victory is ours! Bursting forth is ours! Prosperity, brilliance, sacred knowledge, heaven, sacrifice, cattle, offspring, and heroes—all these are ours. Therefore, we set apart this one, this descendant, this son of that one, whoever he may be, so that he does not release the bonds of the Angirases, nor those of the Angiras descendants, nor those of the Atharvans, nor those of the Atharvan descendants. Victory is ours! Bursting forth is ours! Prosperity, brilliance, sacred knowledge, heaven, sacrifice, cattle, offspring, and heroes—all these are ours. Therefore, we set apart this one, this descendant, this son of that one, whoever he may be, so that he does not release the bonds of the forest lords, nor the bonds of the forest beings, nor the bonds of the seasons, nor the bonds of the seasonal periods, nor the bonds of the months, nor the bonds of the half-months, nor the bonds of day and night, nor the bonds of the joined day. Thus, with these invocations and sacred declarations, the power of victory, prosperity, and divine favor is affirmed for us and ours, while the adversary is bound and set apart, unable to escape the bonds decreed by the gods, the sages, and the very cycles of time.
