My heart is calm and free from distress; I feel vast, like a fertile pasture for cattle, like the limitless ocean, firmly established in the law of dharma. I pray that I may become the navel of riches, the center for those who are equal, drawing prosperity and harmony to myself and others. You, O divine one, are a seat, a vessel, immortal among mortals. I ask that my breath remain with me, that my outgoing breath not depart or leave me. May the sun protect the day, Agni safeguard the earth, Vāyu preserve the atmosphere, Yama watch over men, and Sarasvatī guard earthly beings. Let my breath and outgoing breath never be lost; do not drive me away among people. May all auspicious dawns and dusks, all waters, and all assemblies be enjoyed by me. You are Śakvarī, you are cattle; let not Mitra and Varuṇa depart from me. May my breath and outgoing breath remain, and may Agni grant me skill. We know your origin, O sleep; you are the son of Yama, the agent, the ender, and death itself. Thus we know you, O sleep; protect us from evil dreams. We know your origin, O sleep; you are the son of Nirṛti, the agent of Yama, the ender, and death. Protect us from evil dreams. Again, we know you, O sleep; you are the son of Abhūti, the agent of Yama, the ender, and death. Protect us from evil dreams. We know your origin, O sleep; you are the son of Nirbhūti, the agent of Yama, the ender, and death. Protect us from evil dreams. We know your origin, O dream; you are the child of defeat, the agent of Yama, the ender, and death. Thus, O dream, we recognize you; protect us from evil dreams. We know your origin, O dream; you are the child of the offspring of the gods, the agent of Yama, the ender, and death. Protect us, O dream, from evil dreams. Today, we have conquered; today, we have sat down in peace; today, we are free from guilt. May any evil dream that caused us fear vanish away. Carry away from us all that is hateful, all that is cursed. Whom we hate and who hates us, let this be sent to them. The goddess Dawn, in harmony with speech, and the goddess of speech, in harmony with Dawn, are invoked. The lord of Dawn, agreeing with the lord of speech, and the lord of speech, agreeing with the lord of Dawn, are called upon. May they carry away for him those constant followers of misfortune, those swift ones of evil speech: the Kumbhikas, the Dushikas, the Piyakas. Let all evil in dreams, whether awake or asleep, depart. Let the bonds of deceit, the intentions of the unwise, the desires of the impoverished, not return here. May the gods, O Agni, carry away for him all evil, as a wolf carries off a cripple, not a worthy one. With this, I strike him with misfortune, ruin, destruction, defeat, capture, and darkness. With the dreadful, fierce messengers of the gods, I send him forth. I place him between the jaws of Vaiśvānara. Thus, thus, may she devour him. Whoever hates us, let his own self hate him; whom we hate, let his own self hate him. Let us distribute, from the sky, earth, and atmosphere, that which is free from hostility. And let us be well-guided and clear-sighted. This evil dream I wipe away for the descendant, for the son of that one. Whatever harm I approached, whatever was done in the evening, whatever was done in the previous night, whatever was done while awake, whatever was done while asleep, whatever was done by day or by night, whatever I approach day after day—from all that, may I protect him, may I show mercy. Strike him, delight in that, listen even to his back. May he not live, may his breath depart. Victory is ours; bursting forth is ours; death is ours; energy is ours; sacred knowledge is ours; heaven is ours; sacrifice is ours; cattle are ours; progeny is ours; heroes are ours. Victory is ours; bursting forth is ours; death is ours; energy is ours; sacred knowledge is ours; heaven is ours; sacrifice is ours; cattle are ours; progeny is ours; heroes are ours. Therefore, let us distribute that one, that descendant, that son of that one. May he not be released from the bonds of destruction.
