Behold the wondrous deeds of Vishnu, from whom sacred vows have arisen, the one who stands as the fitting companion of Indra. The wise gaze upon Vishnu’s highest abode, ever watchful, as if an eye stretches across the sky. From heaven, from earth, and from the vastness of the midspace, Vishnu, fill my hands with many riches, granting abundance from both the right and the left. The Veda is auspicious, as are the destroyer, the axe, and the altar; the axe brings us auspiciousness. May the gods who desire sacrifice, who are invoked with offerings, be pleased with this act of devotion. Agni and Vishnu, your greatness is immense; you walk the path of ghee, bearing secret names and seven treasures. Let your tongues move with ghee for our benefit. Your dwelling is great and beloved; you both delight in the secret ghee and grow through praise. May your tongues utter ghee for our well-being. Heaven and earth have made me well-prepared; Mitra, Brahmanaspati, and Savitar have all made me ready to receive blessings. Indra, mighty one, invigorate us today with abundant and best powers. Defeat those who hate us, and let life depart from those whom we oppose. Approach the beloved youth, grown strong through invocation. We have come bearing reverence; may he grant me long life. Let the Maruts unite me, Pūṣan unite me, and Bṛhaspati unite me. May Agni unite me with offspring and wealth, and grant me long life. Agni, drive away those born as my rivals; Jātavedas, drive away those who have arisen against me. Make their place below, let those who strive against us be harmless, and may we belong to Aditi. Drive away the rivals who have arisen; overcome them with force, Jātavedas. Protect this realm for prosperity, and may all the gods follow it after me. These hundred veins and thousand channels of yours, I have blocked them all with stone. I make your lower origin distant; let you not be fruitful nor a parent. I make you without offspring, covering you with stone. May our eyes be like honey and our faces adorned; let me be joined within your heart, and may our minds be united with strength. I place you with human birth and with my garment; may you be mine alone, not belonging to others or to their praise. I dig this remedy, a healing herb, for my sight and delight, for the return of one gone away and the welcome of one who has come. With that by which the Asuri bound Indra apart from the gods, with that I bind you, so that you may be most dear. You are receptive to Soma and to the Sun, receptive to all the gods. To you, we address our words. I speak, not you, in the assembly; let me speak, not you. This praise is mine alone, not belonging to others, nor to their songs. Whether you are beyond people or beyond the rivers, this very plant has brought you here to me, as if bound. The heavenly eagle, vast with milk, mighty embryo of waters, bull among plants, coming with rain and satisfying with abundance—may he establish wealth for us in the cattle-pen. He whose ordinance all cattle and waters follow, in whose ordinance the lord of nourishment abides—him, Sarasvant, we call for help. Sarasvant, lord of nourishment, bestower of wealth and fame, we call you to the seat of riches. The falcon, keen-eyed and seeing the resting places, has crossed deserts and waters; traversing all lower realms, may he come to us in friendship with Indra, auspiciously. The celestial falcon, with beautiful wings and born from strength, may he bring back the wealth that was taken away; may our ancestors possess their portion with sustenance. Soma and the Rudras, drive away the spreading disease and misfortune that has entered our dwelling; repel calamity far away and release us even from committed sin. Soma and Rudras, place all healing remedies in our bodies; loosen and release whatever harm or sin is bound within us. Some of your words are auspicious, some inauspicious; you bear them all with a kindly mind. Three voices are placed within you; of these, one has fallen forth, following the sound. Both strive, neither is defeated nor overcomes; neither is conquered. When Indra and Vishnu have striven, they would win a thousandfold in threefold measure. From people, from all peoples, from the river, from the mountain, from afar you are raised, O remedy for jealousy, known by name. Sinivali, broad-hipped sister of the gods, accept the offered oblation; grant us offspring, O goddess. She with beautiful arms, lovely fingers, full of strength and many children—to Sinivali, mistress of the people, offer the oblation. She who is Indra’s, receptive, approaching with a thousand forms, goddess and wife of Vishnu, to you the offerings are given—urge your husband, O goddess, for our prosperity. I invoke with knowledge the goddess Kuhū, well-doer, easy to call at this sacrifice. May she grant us all-embracing wealth, a heroic son, and a hundredfold giver of praise. Kuhū, wife of the immortal gods, may she accept our oblations; may she eagerly hear our sacrifice today and grant us nourishment and wealth. I invoke Rākā, gracious and well-praised; may she listen to us and attend to us in spirit. May she sew together the garment with a needle that does not cut, and grant a heroic son, a giver of a hundred gifts, worthy of praise. O Rākā, your benevolent and beautiful favors, by which you give treasures to the worshipper—by those, come to us today with a kindly mind, bestowing abundant wealth. May the shining wives of the gods protect us, granting victory and strength. Those who dwell on earth and those who have dominion over the waters—may those gracious goddesses bestow their protection upon us. And may the goddesses, wives of the gods, come to us—Indrāṇī, Agnāyī, Aśvinī, Rāṭ; the two worlds, Varuṇānī—may she listen; may the goddesses, mothers of the seasons, come to us. Thus, with reverence and devotion, the seeker calls upon the gods and goddesses, invoking their blessings, protection, and abundance for all realms of life.
