May Pūṣan, the divine guide, extend his protective hand beyond, on our right side, so that what has been lost might return to us, and with all that is recovered, may we find true unity. We invoke the nourishing and gracious breast of Sarasvati, the source of joy and generosity, by whose power all treasures are sustained—may this sustaining presence be established here for our welfare. O divine one, whose broad and thundering breast is lofty and radiant, adorning all that exists—spare our crops, we pray, from the harm of lightning and the scorching rays of the sun. Let them flourish under your benevolent gaze. May the assembly and the council, daughters of Prajapati, stand together in harmony to protect me. May those with whom we are united teach me wisdom, and may my words be beautiful among the gathered elders. We know your true name, O assembly—Unharmed—and may all your members speak kindly toward me. Among all those assembled, may I bring forth brilliance and discernment. Indra, let me share in the fortune of this assembly. If your thoughts have wandered or are bound elsewhere, we gently recall them to you; may your mind find delight in me. Just as the sun, rising among the stars, gathers their brilliance unto itself, so do I draw the radiance away from those who harbor hatred, whether among women or men. However many rivals may approach, as the sun rises over those who sleep, so do I take away the radiance of those who bear ill will. I offer praise to Savitar, the god of wondrous power and wise action, whose impulse is true and whose treasures are dear to us. His thoughts ascend, shining with strength; this skillful one, with golden hands, measures out the sky with compassion. O divine Savitar, raise him to the highest place, as you did for the first father; grant him greatness and breadth. Day by day, bestow upon us noble things and abundant cattle. Savitar, worthy of our choice, grants treasures and long life to the ancestors. Let him partake of the soma, rejoicing in our offering; even the path-finder moves by his law. I choose that true-minded, splendid favor of Savitar, all-encompassing and gracious, which Kanva drew forth—rich and overflowing, like a thousand-streamed bull, bringing fortune. O Bṛhaspati and Savitar, cause him to grow and shine for great good fortune. Even if he is restrained or hindered, release him; let all the gods together rejoice in him. May Dhātṛ, lord of the world, grant us wealth and fullness. May he bestow upon the worshiper an unbroken, long life in the east, for we seek the favor of this generous god. May he grant all desirable things to the one who desires offspring in his home, and may all the gods, together with Aditi, bestow immortality upon him. May the gifts of Dhātṛ and Savitar be accepted here; may Prajāpati, lord of treasures, and Agni favor us. May Tvaṣṭṛ and Viṣṇu, increasers of offspring, grant wealth to the sacrificer. O sky, break open this heavenly space; O earth, rise up. Lord Dhātṛ, ruler of the sky, remove all barriers for us. The earth, unharmed by heat or cold, may it open long-lived. Even the waters flow with ghee for him; where Soma is seated, there is well-being. Prajāpati generates these offspring, and may Dhātṛ, well-disposed, grant them. May those united in mind and birth be granted abundance by the lord of nourishment. May Anumati, without reproach, grant her approval for our sacrifice among the gods, and may Agni, the bearer of offerings, be present for the worshipper. O Anumati, be gracious to us with your favor; accept the oblation offered, and grant us offspring. May the approving one bestow abundant and unfailing wealth; may we not fall into your displeasure but remain in your good favor. O Anumati, well-invoked and generous, protect our sacrifice by your guidance; grant us wealth and heroic sons. Anumati has come to this sacrifice for fertile fields, for heroism, and for good birth. Truly auspicious is her favor—may the gods, as guardians, protect this rite. Anumati has become all that exists—whatever stands, moves, or stirs in the universe; may we remain in your favor, O goddess, for you are indeed gracious to us. All the people have gathered with united speech to the lord of heaven, the manifold one, the guest of men—he who is both ancient and new, the path-maker who turns toward the one man. Our vision is vast and manifold, a thousandfold—the thought of the wise, the light in the order. The bright ones have brought the dawns together in harmony; the sinless and mindful ones have gathered the most powerful forces of the cow in their rightful place. We drive away evil dreams, misfortune, demons, hostility, all ill-named and evil words, casting them far from us. Whatever Indra, Agni, all the gods, the Maruts, and the radiant ones have preserved unbroken—may Savitar of true order, Prajapati, and Anumati grant that to us. By whose power the regions are upheld, who are most heroic and mighty, ruling with unconquered strength—these are Vishnu and Varuna, invoked since ancient times. By their command and radiance, all is established; they advance and behold with their power, upholding the law from ages past. Whose heroic deeds of Vishnu shall I proclaim? He who measured the earthly regions, who propped up the upper seat, who, in three wide strides, traversed the worlds for the wide-goer. The heroic deeds of Vishnu are sung, like a mighty wild beast roaming the mountains—he has reached the distant realms beyond. Within his three wide strides all the worlds abide. O Vishnu, stride widely for us; grant us a broad dwelling. Drink the ghee, O ghee-born, and proceed to the lord of the sacrifice. Vishnu has indeed stridden this, placing his foot three times—his path is hidden in the dust. Vishnu, the unassailable guardian, has stridden three steps, upholding the laws from here. Thus, the gods are invoked, their blessings sought, and their deeds remembered, so that prosperity, unity, and divine favor may dwell among us always.
