May the radiant god Savitar bestow upon us abundant immortality, guiding us along the noble path, for which our praises rise in harmony and devotion. In the sacred hall, the priests are called to press Soma for mighty Indra, acting swiftly so that the words of the one who praises are heard, and favor is granted in return. As the sweet Soma drops pour forth, they enter Indra like birds flocking into a sheltering tree, filling him with sweetness. Wide-seeing Indra, let your gaze dispel all hostilities and demons from our midst. Again, the Soma is pressed for Indra, the drinker of Soma, the wielder of the thunderbolt. Young and victorious, he is celebrated as lord and hero, deserving of all praise. For our protection, we call upon Indra, Pūṣan, and Aditi; let the Maruts, the seven rivers, and the children of the waters guard us. May Viṣṇu and the vast sky also shield us from harm. Let Heaven and Earth, guardians of prosperity, protect us. May the sacred stone, Soma, and the gracious goddess Sarasvatī keep us from harm, and may Agni with his auspicious guardians stand watch over us. The divine Aśvins, lords of beauty, are invoked for protection, as are Dawn and Night, who grant us wide and unhindered space. O child of the Waters, supporter of all, and Tvaṣṭṛ, increase our life so that we may attain all we seek. Tvaṣṭṛ, grant us divine speech, and let Parjanya and Bṛhaspati also bestow their blessings. May Aditi, with her sons and brothers, protect us, and may the mighty one save us from all that is difficult to cross. Aṃśa, Bhaga, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, Aditi, and the Maruts—may all these deities shield us. Let the hatred of the hostile be driven far away, and may all enmity be removed by the supporter. With wisdom, may the Aśvins lead us, granting us a wide, unimpeded path. O Heaven and Earth, drive the evil one far from our presence. Agni, lead this one upward with the offering of ghee, endowing him with radiance and abundance in offspring. Indra, make him foremost among his kin, lord among his companions; unite him with wealth and nourishment, and grant him a long and fruitful life. Agni, for whom we make the home oblation, increase his fortune. For him, Soma speaks, and Bṛhaspati lends his voice as well. Bṛhaspati, if any who is not a god opposes us, strike him down for the sake of my sacrificing worshipper. Soma, if any speak ill of us or curse us, strike their mouth with the thunderbolt and let them, defeated, depart. To those who attack us, whether near or far, O Soma, remove their strength with your vast might, as the sky overwhelms all below. May we walk the path trod by Aditi, Soma, and Mitra, pure and without guile; by their favor, may grace come to us. Soma, by the power with which you struck down the Asuras, speak for us and grant us victory. By the strength you gods chose to overcome the Asuras, grant us your protection. As the creeper embraces the tree all around, so may you embrace me; as women desire me, and as my mind clings to me, so let your mind cling to me. As the eagle, swift in flight, strikes the earth with its wings, so do I strike your mind; as women desire me, let your mind not depart from me. As the heavens and earth and the sun swiftly encompass all, so do I encompass your mind; as women desire me, let your mind remain with me always. May her body, her feet, her eyes, and her thighs desire me; may the hair of the passionate one wither in longing for me. I make you dwell in my thoughts at dusk and in my heart at night, so that, O desiring one, you may come to my intention and my mind. For those whose navel is the place of rising, whose heart is the seat of union, may the cows, mothers of ghee, bring about that union for me. To the earth for hearing, to the plants, to Agni, to the lord—svāhā. To the breath for the midspace, to the ages, to Vāyu, to the lord—svāhā. To the sky for sight, to the stars, to Sūrya, to the lord—svāhā. Upon the śamī and aśvattha trees is placed the puṃsuvana rite; this is the knowledge of the son, which we place among women. In the man, the seed arises and is then poured into the woman—thus is the knowledge of the son, as Prajāpati declared. Prajāpati, Anumati, and Sinīvālī arranged this, placing the feminine elsewhere and the masculine here. Like the sun encircling the sky, I have reached the birth of serpents; day and night, whatever is destroyed, by that I ward off poison from you. What was known by the Brāhmaṇas, the Ṛṣis, and the gods of old—what was, what will be, and what exists—by that I ward off poison from you. With honey I fill the rivers, the mountains, and the hills; honey for Paruṣṇī and Śīpālā; may there be peace for us, and peace for the heart. Homage to the slayers of gods, to the slayers of kings, and to those who slay among the people; to you, Death, homage is given. Homage to you, lord of speech, lord of distant speech; to your good mind, Death, homage, and to your evil mind, this homage. Homage to the yātudhānas, homage to the medicines; homage to you, Death, at the roots, and to the Brāhmaṇas, this homage. Let bone-wasting, flesh-wasting, heart-disease, and all balāsa be driven from the limbs and whatever resides in the joints. I drive out balāsa from the afflicted, as one removes a root, cutting its bindings and roots as one uproots a plant. Let balāsa fly away from here like a young bird; as one departs from this place, let it flee, destroyer of strength.
