May the ancestors who dwell beyond this world shield me, the one who utters these sacred words, who performs this rite, who serves in the priestly office, who stands upon this foundation, who holds this intention and resolve, who bestows this blessing, who calls upon the gods—may they protect me in all these acts. Svāhā. And may those ancestors who came after them, too, be my guardians in the utterance of the sacred formula, in the rite, in the priestly office, in the foundation, in the intention, in the resolve, in the blessing, in the invocation to the gods. Svāhā. May even those who follow after them watch over me in every sacred word and act, in the priestly service, in every foundation and intention, in every resolve and blessing, and as I call upon the gods. Svāhā. From the heights of the mountain, from the vastness of the sky, from the depths of the womb, from limb to limb, the essence is gathered—the seed-bearers of the embryo, holding its precious core as delicately as a leaf. Just as this great earth has accepted and nurtured the embryo of all beings, so do I now place your embryo, and to the one who needs help, I call upon you. Sinīvālī, place the embryo. Sarasvatī, place the embryo. May the twin Aśvins, adorned with garlands of lotuses, place the embryo for you. May Mitra and Varuṇa place the embryo for you, may Bṛhaspati, the divine priest, place the embryo, and may Indra and Agni, and Dhātṛ, the creator, each place the embryo for you. May Viṣṇu prepare the womb, Tvaṣṭṛ shape the forms, Prajāpati pour in the essence, and Dhātṛ place the embryo for you. Drink that which brings conception, that which is known by King Varuṇa, by the goddess Sarasvatī, and by Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra. O Agni, place here the embryo of the plants, the embryo of the trees, the embryo of all beings. O Skanda, be vigorous and place the embryo in the womb. You are a bull among bulls; we lead you forward for offspring. Expand, O one of the great chant; let your embryo rest in the womb. May the gods, the drinkers of Soma, grant an unblemished son, belonging to both lineages. O Dhātṛ, with the best form, place a male son in this woman, among the cows, for birth in the tenth month. O Tvaṣṭṛ, with the best form, place a male son in this woman, among the cows, for birth in the tenth month. O Savitṛ, with the best form, place a male son in this woman, among the cows, for birth in the tenth month. O Prajāpati, with the best form, place a male son in this woman, among the cows, for birth in the tenth month. May the sacrificial formulas, the kindling sticks, and Agni, who knows all well, unite you here in the ritual. May the god Savitṛ, who knows the offspring, unite you in this sacrifice, O mighty one, with the offering. May Indra, who delights in hymns and knows well, unite you in this sacrifice, with good harnessing, with the offering. May the invocations, the sacrificial formulas, and the offerings unite you in the ritual; may the chosen ones, yoked with their wives, bring all here. May the meters and the Maruts unite you in the ritual with the offering, yoked together as a mother cherishes her son. Aditi, performing the sacrifice with sprinklings upon the sacred grass, unites you with the offering. May Viṣṇu unite you with manifold forms of heat in this sacrifice, with good harnessing, with the offering. May Tvaṣṭṛ unite you with manifold forms in this sacrifice; may he unite you with good harnessing, with the offering. May Bhaga unite you with blessings here; in this sacrifice, well-knowing, may he unite you with good harnessing, with the offering. May Soma unite you with manifold nourishment in this sacrifice, with good harnessing, with the offering. May Indra unite you with manifold nourishment in this sacrifice, with good harnessing, with the offering. O Aśvins, come with the Brahman, favorable, increasing the sacrifice with the vaṣaṭ-call; O Bṛhaspati, come with the Brahman, favorable, for this sacrifice is for the sun-realm, for the sacrificer, with the offering. The kindling sticks stand upright, and the bright flames of Agni rise straight and true; Agni, radiant and beautiful, the protector of the body, stands with many hands, shining with offspring. The god among gods, the divine one, prepares the paths with honey and clarified butter. With honey, Agni marks the sacrifice—the leader, the wish-granter, the well-doer, Savitṛ, all-encompassing. He comes here with great might, bearing clarified butter, the desired fire, approached with reverence. In the sacrifices, Agni is seen in the ladles; he will worship—such is the greatness of Agni. The swift and delightful ones are visible among the Vasus; they stand firm, as do the earth-givers. The divine doors, all the gods, uphold the sacred order of the householder. With the wide-ranging radiance of Agni, as she is praised, let the awakening dawns, together with the priests, guard this sacrifice of ours, just as vigilant guardians protect a ritual. May the divine priests lift our sacrifice upward; with Agni’s tongue, may we be praised for our well-being. Let the three goddesses—Idā, Sarasvatī, and mighty Bhāratī—sit upon this sacred grass, honored in our praises. May wondrous and abundant blessings be ours; may god Tvaṣṭṛ distribute the wealth and prosperity of this gathering. O Lord of the Forest, release what you hold; by your own power, let Agni, appeased, carry the offering to the gods. Agni, Jātavedas, perform the rite with svāhā; may Indra and all the gods accept this oblation of the sacrifice.
